Collect Deliver Car

Hello all, my Civic is due to be ready in the next week or so, I never got it from a local dealer as the price was much better elsewhere. I am in two minds whether to collect it or have it delivered (which is free). My gut feeling is to collect it, even though it is a 2/3 stop train 3hour journey as really dont like the idea of someone driving the car to me, on motorway, potentially thrashing it. Just wondered if anyway else bought a Civic that wasnt local or you thoughts. Cheers

Pick it up yourself Mate.
If you find one mark or chip on it at the dealership, you can make them put it in writing that it will be sorted.
If they deliver it, say at dusk and you don't see the iffy bits, no chance.

pick it up yourself. One of the many reasons for buying a new car is knowing that no one else has trashed it etc. Im sure the delivery would not give a **** about revving the hell out of it etc.

Can't you get a friend to drive you there? You could pay for his petrol and treat him to lunch. Or maybe another civinfo friend.

I definitely wouldn't let someone else have the first long drive in my new car. Think about it....what would you do in someone else's car?

Of course, potentially they could be delivering it to you on the back of a small truck - mine did

After all, they have got to get back somehow!

Valid points about pre pickup inspection though

at least you wont have to worry about you getting stone chips, as it will have some when you get it. pick it up yourself, as it will be thrashed to yours and you may even get a fag burn in the set for free.

wouldn't you simply love to go and collect it and the drive it all the way home with that feeling of smugness you get when you have a new car. Go and pick it and make a day of it. That's what I would do!

That's a good point. Check with them first. I've had cars delivered on a low loader but I've also had them driven and been asked by the driver if I would mind dropping him off at the motorway slip road so he could flash his trade plates and cadge a lift home!

Ps:...and some have asked to be dropped at the train station as they have been given a ticket for the return.

All good points

You have reafirmed what I was thinking, will check if it is on a loader, however do love the idea of driving it back to get to know the car, also to check it at the garage - thats a good point that I hadn't thought of, and do hate the idea of someone else driving it. Friends have also offered but not sure if they will be around or not.

Cheers

Going down this Sunday to pick ours up!!

I wouldn't trust a delivery driver for all the reasons mentioned above.
Were going approx 70 miles to get our new 1.8 se Milano red...

I would also make a day of it and go pick it up myself.

im picking up my new type S GT next Saturday (im excited!), had the choice of home delivery but rejected that as i printed off a list from the Wiki of what a new owner should check for and decided it well worth my time to make sure its in tip top condition. Will email dealer in advance of what my inspection will consist of (see wiki for list), and will call a day before collection to make sure all points are addressed before my paying the balance due on the car. If there are any faults found, ie scratches after dealer fit options, then will make sure i get it in writing that it be corrected by dealer.
