My brother has a 2007 Octavia Vrs (diesel) before that he had a 2004 Fabia Vrs (diesel), he loved both cars and would certainly buy an other Skoda!
I have got a Civic so i would obviously say go for the Honda! |

A friend of mine is a wheelchair user. He currently has an Accord which he really likes.
I let him have a try of the Cicic and he immediatey fell in love with it and the fact that he could easily put his chair in the rear of the car with the seats folded up has swung it for him. |

I must admit I am really sruggling to choose between the two.
Although the Civic looks very futuristic and different I dont like all the spray on silver inside. I wish Honda gave you the option of deleting it. Having said that the Civic SE would be the model I would buy - it has loads of kit, which is good. I like the understated interior in the Octavia, but it does need brightening up a bit. The exterior may be plain compared to the Civic but I'm not too bothered about having a car that stands out, its just transport after all. Shame I can't have both! |

Have to disagree, my brother traded his Fabia vrs in for an Octavia vrs
He paid £12400 in September 04 and got £8000 in June 07, he lost £4400 in almost 3 years!! I lost £13000 in almost the same time period on my Mazda RX8!! |

seems poor for the RX - 8 of course retained values are mileage and condition dependant
The skoda fabia's do tend to hold there values slightly better than the rest of the range the Octavia's tend to depreciate around 8 - 10% more than the Civic |

As I have said previously skoda's are boring. But, what I mean is that there appearance is boring, I have a skoda fabia and it is a fantastic little car, especially good for the city etc. Having said that though, the interior is boring and dull and lacking any desire to welcome you to the cabin. I also looked at replacing my present car with another fabia but our ideas changed and what we wanted a car for changed and we looked at several cars and came down to three: Toyota RAV4, Nissan Quashqai and the Civic. I too don't like the silver sprayed stuff but have you seen the fake wood thing they do in the accord? However, when you come to value for money i.e. the amount you get for what you pay, the civic is fantastic value even with the silver sprayed stuff.
Whilst I understand your liking of the octavia and it is a fantastic car but in comparision to the civic it is poles apart. One big reason I didn't buy the octavia is because over here it is used as a company car and there are loads of them on the roads. In the end it came down to the Quashqai and the Civic and the quashqai just couldn't beat the civic on value of equipment and style, the rav4 was rejected on running costs. If you want a stylish car both inside and out then the civic is the only car to go for at the present moment. The octavia is a good car, with a good pedigree now and would serve you well, although you would be accepting a boring looking car. |

It may just come down to money as to which I choose.
On Motability a Civic SE is £299 advance payment & the Octavia Ambiente with small leather pack is £1325. These two cars are very close in specification. Would be interesting to see what dealers would do to match the price of the Honda. |

- Good, comfortable drive - Fabulous engine (same as Golf GTI and new Audi TT) - Reliable - Loads of space in cabin (quite a bit more than the Civic) - Cavernous boot (which I will miss) - VALUE FOR MONEY What I won't miss: - people looking down their nose at me (badge - until I thunder past them!) - interior could be more applealing - poor(ish) residuals Can't think of anything else really... Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my new Civic but if you feel the Octavia is more suited to your needs, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Good luck! |

I however like the Octavia VRS and have driven one a few times and I have to say they are brilliant cars cant fault them. Its very quick it handles well and if you want a nice big car that is the car to go for like you said it has a massive boot and plenty of room in the back too. Skoda is getting a good name now and only the really stupid people think of the old Skoda or have the badge snob thing. It really all depends on your needs I guess and what you like the best but the Octavia VRS is a good fun car so you wont be disappointed. Last edited by Salem; 16th September 2007 at 20:10. |

the small leather pack includes leather steering wheel with remote and maxidot computer. This brings the spec fairly level with Civic. Its not leather seats. I am not keen on leather seats, I always slide around on them.
Just wish I could make up my mind what to get. |

I looked at an Octavia before getting my CTDi SE, and the thing that annoyed me most about the spec on the Skoda is the lack of ESP. Are you looking at petrol or Diesel? If you are looking at the 1.9 TDi, plan your journeys well ahead!!! The packaging on the Honda is streets ahead of the Skoda as well. |
