Hi
It's very interesting topic, especially for somebody from Poland, where both Octavia and Civic are very popular cars (of course there are much more Octavias on the roads...). Comparing these cars (Civic 8 generation and Octavia II) I think that in general quality and reliability of them is a little worse then previous models. I'm frightened sometimes, when I'm reading about faults which people have with their "spaceships", mainly build quality is poor in this model, let's hope that Honda will eliminate at least some problems in 2008 and next years. But from the other side, in "Octavia world" there are also "bugs, faults and irritations". We've got in Poland big site for Octavia owners: Octavia Club Polska and people write there about problems like TDI engine faults (maybe not too common, but they happen), electrict issues, build quality also, etc. Nowadays I think, there is a rule that buying a car you've got to have a little luck, because you can always get one with some problems, irrespective of the manufacturer. So, my summary is: faults in Civic are obviously irritating, but after reading forums of other brands' owners, I see that every has problems. Such a life - costs, costs, costs... |

There is also a polish honda civic site too! I registered on there but my polish isn't good enough yet to understand everything, so I don't visit it too often. Do you have a civic? If you don't mind me saying your english is very good. |

If you consider buying the Octavia try the DSG TDI estate. If the manual transmission of the Civic wasn't as brilliant as it is, I would have probably bought the Octavia DSG. This is about the only automatic that will not get me annoyed in 10 minutes time |

I could change my 1,8 with an octavia 5 RS, but in this case I would have the money to buy CTR, so I would buy a quicker civic
seriously, the comparison could only be between accord and octavia, not civic. Then I would choose octavia (turbo version only). best value for money: Civic 1.8 5d executive -> 25150 euros Accord Accord sport 2.0 -> 29500 euros Octavia 5 2.0 RS -> 27790 euros Last edited by rallakias; 9th March 2008 at 14:33. |

Frankly speaking in case of Civic I'm thinking about 4d version (sedan) which is offerred in Poland with 1.8 140HP engine (not only as a hybrid like on other European markets). Sedan is a bit more comfortable than hatchback, which is important for me, I'm looking both "fun and family oriented" car
I think that Octavia should be compared exactly to Civic, not Accord. It's longer then Civic 5d of course, but look on the wheelbase - bigger in Civic (especially in sedan which have 270cm). Octavia is build on VW Golf chassis and only the great boot makes it so long (over 4.5m). Interior is more spacious in Civic in my opinion. This is not entirely true, but the Civic interior is smarter - with "magic seats" and such stuff. If you are looking for a reliable family car and not a "pocket rocket" I would suggest that you have a look at the Accord estate diesel, the old model will now come in quite attractive pricing, as soon as the new one is in the shops. For the turbo I think you needn't worry, as long as the oil is good no problems to be expected
