1.8 Sport the deal is done...but a bit concerned

Ordered a 1.8 Sport today............it's been a long drawn out game of will between me and the missus.......but finally called the dealer and said Ok let's talk a final cost to change......

Had to wait patiently for a right few hours for a car of choice to be sourced...and it was ........Well chuffed !!

Only bit of the deal that made me sey Eh? was the fact the car would be driven between dealers (maybe 50 miles put on the clock)......I know all cars have a delivery mileage but not been aware of a brand new car being driven to a dealer as opposed to 'delivered'. What's your thoughts as I appreciate delivery miles are sometimes between 4 and 50miles?

I'm thinking of some Honda dealer\engine techy driving my precious new car and thrashing it on it's first journey.....it will no doubt look shiny and perfect when picked up but what damage could be done if it's first 50miles are spend reving it hard

I did get a really decent deal IMHO and really don't want to cause any ripples that may affect that deal but I'm uneasy with this....but was so relieved a car was sourced I didn't challenge it

Is this normal?

I doubt it been thrashed ,mine had 9 miles on it today when i picked it up. A tech thrashing your car would lose his job.

Most of the guys delivering the cars are old boys anywhere and are more concerened with keeping their licence than seeing what a civic 1.8 can do

I really wouldn't worry about this

Even in the unliekly event of it being driven the entire 50 miles in 1st gear at a screaming 7K revs, it isn't going to do anything much in the way of damage

And realistically, its going to be driven (as mentioned above) by a 50/60 year old bloke working for 'beer money'. *
At the end of the day, if he crashes it, or gets spotted doing handbrake turns in the local Tesco carpark, he isn't going to keep his job for long

* Typically, these drivers are blokes - dunno why, and no disrespect to women drivers

I remember when i bought a rover, not new, but I was at the dealership and the guys who were moving the cars and everything we older more careful drivers.

And mind once I had to take a new car 300miles to be delivered(!) for a dealer, so 50miles is nothing.

hi

agree with the other comments, the delivery driver just isnt going to risk any damage or speeding offences.

Mine got driven 25 miles from the dealer to my company and there were no signs of any damage or smoking tyres.

And even if they do thrash it - thats a good thing ... ive hit mine hard since new and she loves it... the car that is....

enjoy!

Hi PJ - who is your dealer ?

you could go back to them and say that you would prefer the car was transported and not driven although as the others say it is unlikely the driver will thrash it

You guys were spot on.

I've ordered the car from Brownbrothers in Peebles and I asked the salesman earlier today who actually drove it for delivery

He said exactly as was described on the forum, the gent driving the car is retired employee and just does it for beer tokens.......

My imagination sometimes gets a bit over wild when it comes to a new car..........feel a a bit of a wally when asking about the drive from dealer to dealer.....must be a common practice when a car transporter for 1 car isn't worth the cost.

So far the Honda dealer has been up front and helpful and done exactly what he said he would. No pushiness just plain talking.

Can't say the same for the VW salesman who couldn't shove me out the door quick enough as soon as I signed the deal for my current 05 golf....hence I'm happy to give Honda a go and let VW find another customer. So far in my experience I'd never buy a Seat again down to very poor aftersales from a number of dealers........and Rover...well let's not go there..........

Appreciate all the feedback...........just so looking forward to picking her up......I know there's bigger faster cars out there but this will be the first timew I've owned a car that can break 0-60 in less than 12 secs

Vrroooommmmmmmmm

Brown Brothers are a good dealers. I've bought cars from them and had cars serviced by them, and I like their "family" touch that is missing on some of the bigger dealers. I wouldn't worry about your car with them.

Thanks for confirming my first impressions 'rudgej'......it's always good to hear from someone who's had first hand experience of a dealer. Good experiences at that

It's early days yet, but I liked the way I've been dealt with so far. It's been a 'pressure free' car buying experience........well apart from my wife's wavering on whether she wanted the Civic or not

I liked Brown Brothers approach to test drives. If you go to them and ask, they give you the keys and say "see you later". On the other hand, some of the bigger dealers make you fill out forms and a person goes with you on the drive. It is little touches like that that set them aside from the big dealers.
