Diesel or Petrol, 3 or 5 door?
Hello,
new person here I'm looking at buying a used Civic and after some advice from owners. Diesel or Petrol? I'm going to using the car everyday to commute to work which is about a 60 mile round trip on a mixture of A roads and the M11. So is it worth plumping for the 2.2 diesel? Am I going to make the initial extra cost worth while? 3 or 5 door? A question for the mums & dad's, is it easy to get a 14 month old in and out of a car seat in a 3 door or do you think to yourself I wish I bought a 5 door? Spec? Do all EX models come with Sat Nav? Is a front heated screen ever an option? Are there any adds on that I should really look for on a used car? Thats all for now, hope some of you can help me out |

I've had both 1.8 petrol and 2.2 diesel and the diesel is faster and gives me 50+ MPG on my 110 mile daily round trip. I suppose it depends on your annual mileage. I have kids and was tempted with the 3 door for the sporty look although I'm glad I opted for the 5 door with the larger 18" wheels.
I think all EX's have Sat Nav. Never seen a heated front screen though. Happy hunting. |

All UK EX's have sat nav, and no heated front screen option - the climate control is very effective though at clearing the screen on cold icy mornings!

3 or 5 for kids...
bizarelly, the 3 might actually be easier to get them into as you go 'back' into the car, rather than from the side However, that might be outweighed in tight parking spaces as the bigger doors won't open as wide I'd say diesel - but I'm bias Seriously tho, for 60 miles per day, the extra 5 or maybe 10 mpg from the diesel will soon start to chip away at any premium you paid for it And yes, EX = Sat Nav, and no heated front screen, but demist blower works very well |

My wife is expecting and we have just bought a 5 door diesel- I would certainly recommend it- performs much better than petrol and gets over 50mpg on a run.
It was more expensive to buy but depending how long you keep it for the resiuals on a diesel are better- so you should get more back for it which kind of balances out the extra initial outlay- I think! Anyway the diesel is great! |

Never had a diesel but have had three and five doors. Wouldn't go back to a three door if you paid me. Too large a front door restricts parking. If your passengers in the rear seats want to get out at a stop quickly ... no chance. For those with a baby. Difficulty in getting to the baby seat. If I last long enough, my next car would certainly be a diesel.
