[Which spec] 5 doors or Type S
I'm planning to buy a Civic by the end of this year and I can't make up my mind should go with 5 doors or Type S. What's the real difference between these two cars? Please do try to elaborate...pretty please

Type S does look more sporty and all but 5 doors is more functional and it still has that coupe line, especially the NHB color. But on the other hand I heard that Type S has better road handling and is lighter then 5 doors thus consuming less gas as well...true? |

The 'S' has a different suspension set up, it has less doors meaning a stonger chassis and handles better. No added performance.
The 5 door looks like a 3 and has added practicality. |

Theres actually quite a few subtle stying differences between the Type-S and the 5-Door. Some of them I didn't realise myself until seeing mine parked next to the 5-door model.
Of course the 3-door looks more 'sporty' and the back windows are a different shape. Also the rear of the Type-S looks marginally more aggresive due to having larger 'triangles' on the exhaust (positioned differently too) and subtle differences with the reflector plates etc. From a practical perspective the 5-door is better of course, and has the full magic-seat feature which (I believe) the 3-door lacks. Having said that, I have taken quite a few people in the back of the Type-S and getting in and out is a doddle due to the acres of space available to climb in (certainly compared to my old Cougar anyway). |

The S gets folding 'semi-magic' seats - they fold up, but have to be held in place with the seatbelt (why? Honda?)
On the plus side, the R style skirts and splitters fit directly onto an S, whereas it requires a lot more work fitting them to a 5 door |

Unless you really need 5 doors, go for the Type S.
It looks better, it handles better, it has a stronger bodyshell. I think a 5 door Civic with 18" wheels drives a bit like an S, so see if any dealer has one of them. The sad thing is, I don't think that you can get Vivid Blue on the Type S now |

![]() So I guess I'll go for NHB. We have 18'' wheels as an option, but I'm afraid that is going to effect road handling very badly because roads here in my country are lousy. PS. Thanks everybody for sharing info on the difference. |
