Space Saver Spare (Lack of as Standard)

I notice that the Seat Leon Stylance, which was the other possibility before I got my Civic, now comes with a space saver spare as standard, rather than an option. This is despite the Seat saleswoman being adamant that a can of gunge was a much better solution. I wonder if Honda will give in on that point. (I have to say that the Honda salesman agreed that a spare was sensible & that if his wife went ahead & bought a Civic as planned he would order her a spare wheel!)

There are quite a few makers nowadays that are doing what Honda have done with the civics spare wheel - so they are not alone and with this in mind
I doubt Honda will change their minds

spare wheel wasn't even an option on my 3.2 TT - to get the weight distribution more even, they moved the battery to the boot (the 3.2 is a bit of a lump!) - which meant that you didn't have room for a spare even if you wanted one...

As above have said its a common occurance that you will not get a spare wheel. I never had one in my Mini and that didn't bother me and the New BM's don't have a spare wheel and if you want one from them it will set up back about £200 +

I doubt I could get a spare wheel for my CTR anyway, not that I want one.

Although I currently have a spare on my old car, I can't remember the last time I actually needed to swap a tyre. It must have been a long time ago.

BTW, does anyone know what the position is with the free breakdown service we get from Honda, do they charge if you call them out for a trye repair?

Dealer told me that we could call for a puncture.

So I definitely don't need a spare then. Chances of me changing one on the side of the motorway are pretty slim anyway, or even a busy A road.

Thanks mrh339.

hi there my wife has a smart car with no spare just a compressor and a can of seal. if you consider how often you have a puncture and the back up of roadside assistance do you need a spare wheel. i have driven over 500,000 miles and only had one puncture.

It could be worse ,they could fit run flats . Runflats are like driving on soggy cornflakes.

I've heard lots of complaints from beemer drivers, who have run flats on them, do they increase the road noise as well?

I never noticed a increase in road noise going from non-run flats to run flats, but I did notice that the ride became a lot firmer and lots of folk do say that!

Although all 3 BM's in my household have run flats on them, all three have spare wheels in the boot for the fact that your only meant to use the run flats in the event of a puncture to get to the nearest garage. They are not designed to be used for long distances, so if you have a puncture at 10 o'clock at night you probably won't find a garage to fix your tyre and your kinda stuck! Also if the wall splits your not meant to drive on them either as you can cause further damage to the car!

I saw a bloke get a puncture on the A1 this morning in his BM and when he started to brake there was a lot of smoke and the smell of burning rubber from the front wheel, which couldn't be good.
