[Dealers] The great parking sensor rip-off

Just a heads-up to anyone buying a new Civic, who wants the (essential) parking sensors.

The list price of the Honda parking sensor system (all nice and colour coded) is £425. Some enterprising dealers just can't help charging you for these, but fitting some aftermarket ones like these:

CKO4ADVBL 4 Sensor 12V Car, Van & Motorhome Flush Fit Parking & Reversing Sensors
Vision UK - Rear View Systems, Cameras, Parking Sensors, CCTV & more!

It is worth clarifying that you are going to get the proper Honda ones, and if you find you have had some £35 specials fitted instead, it would certainly be worth going for a full refund.

Is this for the front and rear and is this the price you quoted for a post delivery fitting? If not, can you please disclose the going rate for a post delivery fitting. I appreciate it may vary slightly between dealers. Thanks.

They are rear only, and are always dealer-fit (so the price is good for a new car or a used car).

425 is just rear fitted [i believe it's roughly the same post delivery].

Yep

Ruislip seem to have fitted aftermarket ones :

although they do match and work OK.

When I was looking I was told by Ruislip they would fit after market ones, Chiswick fitted the Honda ones.

I actually prefer the look of the aftermarket ones they are smaller and neater.

Kremmen, were you charged and invoiced for the genuine Honda ones?

I wonder if we ought to make a dealer hall of shame...

I'll need to dig out the invoice (not till tomorrow though).

I got quite a good deal out of them all in all (saved about £1200 over the RRP including all extras) but I would be interested to know what mine actually cost them to buy in.

I will report back..........

The only gripe I have is that the bleeper is somewhere under the dash and makes a hell of a racket. I selected reverse in the summer and had it bleeping away whilst I got under the dash but I still couldn't spot where the noise was actually coming from to put some sticky tape over the outlet to dim it down a bit.

Pottsy,

When I was negotiating my deal with the dealer over here in poland I got the parking senors thrown in for free but I know that they are not Honda ones they are an after-market set installed by the dealer. I don't know the make, all I know is that there will be some kind of small monitor positioned near the rearview mirror that will tell me how close etc I am. Sorry I can't be more accurate as this was done through translation.

Do you think I should get an answer to what kind of sensors they are or should I just be grateful I am not paying for them?

If you were aware of that they were not Honda parts, then that is fine.

Could be good to know what brand if you ever have any problems with them that need fixing.

"Rear Parking Sensors" £221.29 + £38.73 VAT = £260.02

I can't remember what the Honda sensors were being advertised for at the time.

Thanks FWH, so far my dealer has been fantastic and very up front and honest in his dealings with us. He told us from the beginning that they weren't Honda sensors and I thought that was good of him. They offer full support for the sensors, they said.

I have to say my dealer has been very good so far and the guy we are dealing with is very good and keeps us informed as much as he can. We will see though what the future holds - I mean with delivery delays and so on.
