Servicing
Sorry if this is a n00b question but..
I checked my service book today, the last stamp was September last year, according to the cycle this means the car is due for a service, no? Is this mandatory? When I had my Mini, they sent me a letter reminding me a service was due, but nothing through yet. Also can I get the service done at any Honda dealer, my local is not the place I bought the car from. And how much will it cost? many thanks. |

Yes, you should service once a year.
Mandatory? Well you wont get arrested for not doing it.. But it is no good for your car and they may well not accept warranty claims if it is not maintained correctly. I doubt they will send a letter, up to you to keep track. AFAIK the car doesnt tell you either. You can get it serviced at any authorised Honda dealer in Europe. Not sure about cost - call and ask the dealer. |

You better hurry up too. Not to sure about Honda but some manufacturers insist they are done not more than 1000 miles or 1 month over the schedule, or it will affect the warranty.

But from country to county and model to model it will. Different mile service are also different. Also, you may need some "extras" like brake pads. Presuming you are in the UK, if you post which model you have and what mileage some-one may be able to guide you. |

Guys, I've just been in contact with two dealers about servicing - it's a 55 plate 2.2 btw. First dealer quoted 301 notes and my local quoted 350, this seems a bit steep, I know some people won't be on the second service at the momement, but is this typical?

Have it serviced independently. As long as you use bonafide Honda parts and the correct lubricants, your warranty is not affected.
This now the law. Main dealers no longer have the monopoly on servicing. Dont let them tell you otherwise £300+ for a second service is scandalous. Dont pay it!! |

This is a newish ruling that allows owners to use independant garages to do servicing but I have heard that the manufacturers have very strict conditions if a customer has used an independant garage out of their network so tread carefully
or go to an independant garage get a price and then challenge the Honda Dealers to match the price ! |

The conditions are as I stated above.
Simple as that. My last car was serviced like this. No problem arose when it needed warranty work. I even discussed it with the dealer who confirmed that the warranty was intact if parts used were genuine and the garage was VAT registered....and they could not match the price. |

Is there anyone who has had a second service on a 2.2 and has paid less than 300? |

With a warranty remaining and a car of that value,I would (will definitley)use the main dealer.Don't forget you will need to have the car inspected yearly for the anti perferation warranty to remain active. This would be done normally with the annual service. |

I think people are going to get a shock when it comes to second service time, I phoned around no less than five dealers and got quotes of £280-350. As cb550 said there's probably no substitute for a main dealer service when it comes to warranty and selling the vehicle for the best price, so I've just had to take it on the chin.
Everyone I spoke to said it was a 'major service', despite looking through the service book and thinking I could probably do most of the stuff in it myself. The dealer network must be making a killing on the services, for what is essentially a change of oil and a kick of the tyres. The cheapest -£280 was from Arnold Clark, but alas was too far for me. I eventually got my local dealer to do the service for £300, which seemed about the average. Once the main warranty is up I'll probably get the vehicle serviced independently, I've seen quotes of £120 for a service from a Honda specialist. |

So first service done: Cost £169.68 this is the 12500 mile service plus fitting a fog light (which I provided). The cost for fitting the foglight was £21 +vat (decided for that price it wasn't worth getting my hands dirty)
Breakdown as follows: Carry out 12500 service £86.21 Carry out Vehicle health check £00.00 Fit fog light 0.3 (hours?) £21.00 £107.21 Element kit £8.51 Washer, plug £0.30 Screen wash £1.75 £10.56 Texaco Halvoline 10W40 quantity 3.60 £26.64 Total Goods £144.41 VAT due £ 25.27 Total due £169.98 Service seems to be OK, foglight fitted OK, car not cleaned VW always cleaned the car when serviced also they said they'd call me when it was ready and didn't. Oh well next service 25000 miles (about 7 months) |
