Thumbs up

I found it very useful as I live quite a distance from where I got the car, saved me the hassle of getting a covernote down to them in the week between ordering and picking up. Like a few others, for the full year quite a bit more than my current insurance, but good service to have.

Yes I agree, it's one less thing to worry about when picking your new car up.

I have today used the HONDA complimentary insurance for the wife's new JAZZ, as her current Insurance Co. couldn't guarantee getting the cover note to the Dealer in time for next Monday. Only thing to be aware of is that if you have a prang during the 7 day period, I believe you are obliged to take the HONDA ( Zurich) policy out for the year which incidentally is considerably more expensive by some 33% with the excess being quoted as £300.

I'm not sure that they could tie you into a future insurance policy following a claim on an existing one. Even if they could it seems a bit daft, as you could cancel the remainder of the full policy after you claim anyway.

33% is not to bad - the Zurich quote was ~ 120% more for us! Chap at the other end of the phone was quite embarrassed and took it as read that they wouldn't be anywhere near the most competitive quote we had. Free 7 day cover was v. useful though, as there was some overlap of cars and it meant we could transfer our existing policy more easily.

As I understand it, you take out the policy and can cancel at any time but you get the first seven days regardless. I guess if you have an existing car insurance policy you would suspend cover and then reinstate this after the seven days.

Is my understanding correct ? Other than having to give loads of details to take out the Honda policy can anyone see any downside ?
This was very useful to me because I had my new car the day my current insurance ended. So I had 7 days for free which tied me over to my birthday and made me 1 year older for insurance purposes

So it does have its uses

The sales manager informed me that they have a formal arrangement at number plate change times, due to the volume of sales.
Its not faxed,it gets emailed, the DVLA and post office are legally not allowed to accept anything other than an original certificate, this gets emailed to us as a PDF document.

Dan,

Do you then give this to the customer when they pick up the car?

I have taken up Hondas free 7 day insurance today.

Having bought new from Ford, Vauxhall and Fiat all in the last 2 years, i

have found this to be a fairly standard service now.

The quote is not too bad, but my current insurance is paid up until July so

i will shop around then.

One complaint - 25 minutes on hold is a disgrace. Enough to probably have

ruled them out come renewal time.

Collect saturday - Type R GT, Milano red + 19's. Can't wait.

It took me a long time to get through as well. I think it was on the third time I connected and that was after around a 15 min hold.

I'm not even going to get a chance to use the 7 days insurance.

I ordered the civic on the aspirations deal which expires at the end of march. Because of this they have to get my car registered etc before then so I've just had a phone call from the dealer and apparently I have to phone honda and tell them I'm collecting the car tomorrow and want cover from 5pm. Even though my car isnt going to be ready until next week at the earliest but we had agreed I wouldn't collect it until 18th April ...

Just had a similar call from my Dealer. Apparently "Head Office" want all new vehicles cleared from the books by the close of play Friday which meant revising the drive away insurance start date.

I wasn't kept on HONDA hold for ages either, - anyway it is an 0800 number and not 0870 rip off.

All documentation should obviously behanded over to the customer whne they come to collect their car to show thay have relevant covrem however, i've been finding that alotof customers have actually received their copies in the post by the time they come to collect their car.

yesterday I had a prime example of how helpful this service is, I had a lady come in to get a new (used) car as she had just had hers written off, a member of her family is quite ill in hospital and she needs to be mobile to ferry her family about to visit etc.

She took a shine to a car we had in stock, decided to buy it, rang Honda ins and within 3hrs was driving away in her insured and taxed new car.

And no, we don't get paid any commision from them for it either, its a win win situation, makes everyones life a lot easier and more straightforward.

With reagrds to Honda (and every other manufacturers) cut off dates, I believe that it is all down to the Dealer registration system (run by the DVLA). The AFRL system cannot be entirely relied upon and therefore being that the month end if at a weekend, most manufacturers require the vehicles to be taxed and registered by friday incase of any system errors.

I've just sorted mine out, got through straight away but then had to be put on hold for 10 minutes whilst they got a manager to approve as I've only been driving 6 months but im buying a 1.8ES. The fact I'm 27 not 17 didn't seem to matter

The quote was quite amusing. They quoted me £5216 for the first year which oddly enough, I declined.
