Honda UK 7 day free insurance

Just a quick question to ask if anyone has taken advantage of this and if so how did it work.

As I understand it, you take out the policy and can cancel at any time but you get the first seven days regardless. I guess if you have an existing car insurance policy you would suspend cover and then reinstate this after the seven days.

Is my understanding correct ? Other than having to give loads of details to take out the Honda policy can anyone see any downside ?

The dealer was VERY reluctant to use this, and also so were HQ.

I doubt if your current insurer would suspend for only 7 days.

My dealer recommended it as a means of cutting out the hassle of getting the car taxed etc.

Honda Insurance (Zurich) emailed the fact that I had insured the car for seven days to the dealer, so that they could sort out the tax disc and I only needed to inform my current insurers that I had changed the car on the day rather than worry about them sending a cover note and me getting the cover note to the garage some days before so that they could get the tax disc.

The insurance is literally for seven days, no longer. Zurich give you a quote that they hope you will use when you renew your insurance, but for me it was £100 more than I pay through my broker. It's not one of those agreements that you have to remember to cancel such as magazine subscriptions.

As it was I only drove the car on my own updated insurance as I had informed my current insurance company before I hit the road that I had changed my car, if you see what I mean.

There is no downside as far as I can see, only positives.

My Dealer did offer it, but I already had it in place.

I suppose if your trade in vehicle tax, mot, and insurance had expired in the day or so of picking up your new car, then the seven day insurance would be handy, while you sorted out perhaps a more competative insurance quote.

my dealer sorted it out for me and it gave me a bit of time to sort out my insurance with my insurer. As I picked my car up very soon after buying (ex-demo) it helped.

My dealer recommended it to cover the gap between the car arriving and getting my own insurance, he also recommended it as they couldn't guarantee a set day of the week I would receive it so it would cover me without stopping the insurance on the car I currently owned. The insurance was sorted quickly and they e-mailed the dealership with the details immediately. They then sent a renewal quote a couple of weeks later which was £400 more than the insurance I took out with Elephant I don't think I'll be using Zurich any time in the future, but it served it's purpose

I used and it really made the Taxing of the car easier.
I also took the Honda Insurance as the cover was better than my old insurer, slightly more expensive.

I only used it to tax the car as it was easier than trying to synchronise my existing insurance and made collecting the car more straight forward, it was handy. As I was already with Zurich the Honda scheme wasn't any cheaper! The only thing to note is that apparently its illegal to insure your car twice so need to make sure you cancel the 7 day one when you sort out your own insurance.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm currently with Privilege so will have to see if there is a minimum period I can "suspend" cover as it seems, from whats been said, it does remove the hassle of getting a cover note to the dealer when you're not 100% sure when the car will be available for pick up.

You don't need to suspend the other insurance.
Just let them know when you want it to change from the old car to the new one, as long as it is before the 7 day Honda insurance runs out you will be fine.

Honda Insurance

Just to say, we use the 7 day cover day in day out for our customers, there is no catch, it is free, and Is a nice marketing exercise for Hondacare. We recieve a covernote that is accepted at post offices almost immediatly after you put the phone down.

Cost, the cover isnt the cheapest granted, but it is among the best. Afterall why do you own a Honda? they are not the cheapest cars on the road!

I havent posted this to raise an argument about insurance companies as I am not interested in that cut throat world, but please ask about the cover as it makes the dealers life alot easier and you should be able to pick up your vehicle quicker. It will take the hastle of you getting the covernote to your dealer and stop the "has it arrived yet" calls.

Regards

Andy is spot on

We use it all of the time, and it does take a load of hassle out of the handover.

As he said, since it came in to place I haven't had to give a single client the dreaded ' oh, you haven't got the insurance either then. Lets wait till tomorrow then' telephone call.

If you are awaiting your new car, use it. If it saves a one day delay you will love it, and its free

Martin / Andy - thxs. Will certainly do so, wouldn't want the big day to be delayed as a result of waiting for the insurance !

Just a quick question on this, does Honda send you a policy or something in the post?

ie how do you legally know that you are covered should you have a crash within this 7 day period?

My 7 day Honda insurance was faxed through by the Insurance Co to my Dealer and was waiting for me when I picked up the car.
I questioned how they managed to get it taxed, with only a fax copy as the DVLA ask for the original to be shown
The sales manager informed me that they have a formal arrangement at number plate change times, due to the volume of sales.
