Good deal or not ? Type S GT 1.8
I am on the verge of purchasing the following from a Honda dealer and i would appreciate your expert views/opinion if good value:
Type S GT 1.8 Reg: 27 Jun 07 2848 miles Manual Storm Design Alloys Blueish Silver Metallic No previous owners so i assume an ex-demo £16995. I have worked out new 16,277 + alloys 850 + met paint 375 = £17,502 less price on offer £16,995 - i am saving £502......??? I am PXing my Mazda RX8 232ps Red with black/red leather and heated seats, new alloys, Sep 04 28500 miles, full mazda sh, 10 month mot and tax, excellent condition throughout, i have been offered £11000 if i do a deal by next friday ! Your views really would be appreciated... many thanks Last edited by GlosChap; 23rd November 2007 at 15:38. |

Doesn't sound like a good deal to me. I would have thought you could get a £500 discount on a brand new (ie. zero miles) on the clock. Unless they are suggesting that getting it immediately (rather than waiting weeks) is a plus and should be paid extra for.

I went down the pre-reg. route.Discount against new price and the car's available to take away(viewed mine on the wednesday, took it on the friday.Obviously the trade off is its already got someone's name on the log book. P.S. forgot to add any deal's probably only going to happen if the price is right on your p/ex. Last edited by cb550; 23rd November 2007 at 18:07. Reason: added p/ex |

There is a BIG problem with the Pre-Reg route, as I found out to my cost... If your insurance company has a clause that offers to replace your car with a new one if you suffer a total loss in the first 12 months (and most do), they only do this if your name is the first and only name in the logbook. My last car was stolen in October and was a 100 mile old dealer vehicle. The payout I received was terrible (Think trade in price which in their terms equates to "market value"). Only upshot of this is that I have a new Civic!

Well, mine is the spec you see below, with regular 17-inch alloys. It was a bit older (7 months) and had 6,000 miles on the clock - but I got it for £13,100. Which I thought was pretty good.

Just for your info I have put this spec into drive the deal's website.
List price:£17502 Discount:£1433 You pay:£16068 And this is for a new car. Get a quote and print it out and take it to your dealer. I got a £1200 discount of mine when I produced the DTD paperwork. Most dealers will get close. The two I tried both did. Your dealer is REALLY trying it on..... |

The offer on your Mazda looks reasonable but the trade-in value of that Civic is less than £14k so I would be aiming at getting as close to £4k to swap as you can. The wheels may add a bit but £6k is far too much imho.
