When you say experience of driving that or similar, would me driving my parents cars either on their insurance or or TP on mine count, as I've been driving a Range Rover 4.2 for about a year and a 330ci, or does it have to be experience on your own policy???
Just for clarification, Tom |

How firm is the 22 age limit?
Just curious as I would need to renew the insurance in September, and I'm not 22 until October. However, I would have a years experience driving the Civic (2.2) and 4 years NCB. I'd be wanting fully comp, current policy is reasonably expensive to say the least. Postcode is in the SS region, but I believe (from online searches) in the lowest risk grouping. What is the stance on Modifications? I was considering having a remap done on my car, unfortunately my current insurers are notoriously anti-modifications. Hi Dave
Mods are fine except roll cages & nitrous. Re your age, we will look at 21 year olds as long as the profile is good & it seems yours is! You'll be 22 soon after the date anyway so I can't seeing it being a problem. |

Would suppose not, I'd struggle even though I've driven a 2.0l 5 series, even though the R is a 2.0l also, guessing it is whatever the sheet says is classed as performance, i.e. over 2000cc or with a 0-60 time sub Xx seconds.....???

I'll give you guys a try when i'm due to renew in June. I got a good deal when I first puchased the CTR on insurance because although young I had driven a chipped Cooper S and was driving a M3 while I was without a car awaiting the CTR. If I had only been able to provide driving my Mum's 3 series I wouldn't have got that good a deal.
I do doubt however that most companies would be able to beat some of the quotes I get. It was £370 for the current policy year with 1 years ncb and nobody else could come near |

The other thing that occured to me, and perhaps you'll be able to answer this Tim:
If I was with you, and half way through my policy I decide I want to chance to say, a 330d, bit of a step up in performance terms, would I be able to? Its only that with the requirement of a years experience driving that car, it would be a little difficult to upgrade, if you see what I mean? |

I guess if you can demonstrate you are used to the performance of a vehicle, you are less of an insurance risk.
Think of it this way: Bloke A: aged 28, ridden bikes for the last 10 years, a mixture of 600s, 750s and is now getting his second 1000cc. vs Bloke B: aged 50, driven his Volvo for the last 30 years, done his direct access course (5 days on the road, 4 on a 500cc) who goes out and buys a 1000cc sportsbike same as gentleman A. Who is the greater statistical risk? From that perspective I agree, but I can also see the problem of 'proving' you've insured some quicker cars, or had regular access to them... |

well i think the fact that the ctr is an ordinary evry day car untill driven over 5600 rpm should be taken into account too - the power isnt their instantly like with a turbo for instance so it is alot more manageable for someone new to high performance
it is the perfect choice for someone wanting to ease into high performance not everyone wants to flog their ctr to the death sadly i dont fit into this catagory as i v-tec my b1tch wherever i go muuuaaahaaaaaaa |

When you say, not competitive on certain postcode around the north west what do you mean? Am I more likely to get a better deal else where (like moneysupermarket.com)
Is it because the area is high risk or is it because there is more competition for this area? I found when I moved out of WN7 to SK8 it dropped by 15% I would love a better insurance deal though im 25, never claimed, no convictions, 2years no claims bonus, 4 years driving licence, expect to do 30k miles this year, business and personal, live in the SK8 area and still being quoted around £1200 for my civic 2.2 es |

Tbh, in those specific areas, you would get a better quote elsewhere.
Unfortunately it's all to do with claims statistics. An inordinately high number of claims come from these postcodes, simple as that. It's not a case of a few points higher but a much greater percentage than the norm. The insurers did actually tinker with individual postcodes but it didn't work sadly. I suppose 'once bitten, twice shy'. The scheme would just not exist if the insurers included these postcodes because of the losses that these have historically caused. |
