Polished Bliss advice for silver colours
Other members have sought advice and as I am confused at all the different advice/products out there thought I would have a go. Really pleased with reply and think I will take the plunge.
My car is nearly year old has done 8000 miles and was supaguarded from new. Last week I put one coat of Meguiars NXT Tech Wax on - which although good feel I could get richer wetter look. My questions:- > Will the NXT take off remaining supaguard? > > What would you recommend I do to make the best of the colour bearing > in mind what is already on the paintwork? > > Would you then recommend a cheaper option which would give good but > not the best result. > > I really do not want this cleaning bug to get out of hand financially. Answer:- Hi John, many thanks for getting in touch, and for the decent amount of information you've provided - you'd be amazed at how many one line e-mails I get asking for help! Starting with the Supaguard issue, this and all other dealership applied 'long-life' treatments are simply average quality sealant systems... which should cost around the £20-£30 mark. Essentially, such systems are mechanisms for dealerships to make much more profit from every sale, and rarely do they give desirable results, or the durability they claim. I had Supaguard applied to my Leon when I bought it new back in 2001, and within 9 months it had totally worn off. In fact, I was so frustrated with the quality of the product and the money I paid for it that the whole episode kickstarted my interest in car care, and the rest as they say is history. My point here though is this... after 8000 miles the coating will be wearing off already, and losing it to something that works as well but looks a whole lot better is no bad thing - I speak from experience! Onto the questions then... 1. /Will the NXT take off remaining supaguard?/ No, it shouldn't do, as NXT Tech Wax is also a sealant (despite the name), and it should just sit on top of the remaining Supaguard coating without any bonding issues. 2. /What would you recommend I do to make the best of the colour bearing in mind what is already on the paintwork?/ Over the last 6 years I have tried virtually everything on my metallic silver Leon (even our £1852 pot of Zymol Vintage!) and nothing has come close to the finish that the Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic System gives on it. Terrific wetness, sharp reflectivity and massive flake pop when the sun is out - perfect! This system is relatively inexpensive (£46.95 for the whole kit), and very easy to work with. Here is a little more info about it, and the method for using it... JEFFS Werkstat Acrylic Kit £46.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/jeffs-werkstatt-acrylic-kit-protect.html The Prime Acrylic basecoat is a light finishing polish that lays down a tough initial coat of acrylic protection whilst deep cleansing the paint; you should use it once every six months after claying. Acrylic Jett Trigger is a pure spray sealant that should be used to add more gloss and protection every 4-6 weeks; the more layers you build up, the better the finish will get in terms of wetness and durability. The Acrylic Glos is a quick detailing spray, and can be used to help boost gloss, lubricate when drying off after washing and loosen the residues of Prime and Trigger if you find them hard to remove. Here are full instructions for the first major detail with the products... After washing and claying, start out by applying a basecoat of Prime Acrylic using the white side of the Ultimate German Applicator Pad, and buff off this residue using the blue Poorboys Super Thick & Plush Towel, using a spritz of Acrylic Glos to help loosen the residue if needs be. Then apply a coat of Acrylic Jett Trigger by spraying onto one of the coral Poorboys Deluxe Mega Towels, wiping over the panel and then buffing off with the other Poorboys Deluxe Mega Towel, again using a spritz of Acrylic Glos to help loosen the residue if needs be. Then simply add a fresh coat of Acrylic Jett Trigger every 4-6 weeks until the time comes to start over by claying the car again (usually needed 1-2 times a year). 3. /Would you then recommend a cheaper option which would give good but not the best result? /Difficult one this, as not much else comes close to the Jeffs finish, but for an inexpensive route to more wetness and gloss, then Poorboy's Natty's Blue Paste Wax at £11.95 is worth considering. I appreciate what you are saying about the wealth of products available today, and the wealth of funds that can easily be eaten up pursuing car care perfection. All I can say is that in 6 years of silver car ownership, and 2 years of professional detailing to the highest possible standards, for me nothing else comes close to the finish the Jeffs Acrylic system gives on silver. I have attached some pictures showing the finish the above products give on my Leon, in order to give you some idea in advance. Hope that helps, Rich . |

I drive past their premises every day on the way to work and have popped in a good few times for stuff. They really, really know their stuff and stock a superb range of quality products. Their advice is second to none.

They're also fully booked for detailing cars for the next 6 months or so. So busy that they've stopped taking bookings, as they're already into next summer. Speaks volumes, as we're not talking about a cheap valet. They're building up a very good reputation for themselves. Personally, I'm surprised they haven't expanded further yet.

Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic System now applied
Well I have now found the time to try the Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic System and very pleased with the result. Yesterday applied the Prime Acylic Base coat and one coat of Jett Trigger. Today another coat of Jett was applied. The wheels have been done with Poorboy’s wheel sealant. I will add more Jett Trigger to hopefully improve the wetness and durability. There seem more pictures posted of the darker colours so thought I would post these. I now think the car looks better than it did when I took delivery 12 months ago.
