Type R Side Decal Fitting

Hello all
Just recently purchased a new CTR (2007 model) and would like to fit the standard Type R side Decals to it. I have the side decals in my possession but having never fitted any graphics to cars before, I am on the lookout for some advice.
Firstly, in general terms, from your experience what advice can you pass on in fitting them?
Secondly, what is the easiest way to position them (i.e. hoping to position them near the rear wheel arch, but does anyone have specific dimensions to follow)?
Thirdly, will they fit properly on a cold day, i.e. over this weekend?
Fourthly, are they pretty waterproof, therefore washing over them on a regular basis won’t make them peel?
I know this post is a bit long-winded but thanks for any advice you can offer.
Cheers

Hi. Welcome to Civinfo
If you use a strip of masking tape as a guide line you wont get it wrong(not level).
It wont come off at all when on properly, even a pressure washer wont budge it.
Here is a picture of mine(Type S but otherwise identical):
Click the image to open in full size.
If you see just below it, there is crease in the body. Thats where I ran a length of masking tape.
IMPORTANT!!!
CLEAN THE PAINT WITH METHS FIRST. You dont want anything on the paint that will affect the adhesion
Good luck. Its very simple

Would pretty much agree with Robbo's tip of using a line of masking tape (I have the same Type S stickers, and used the same trick)

Main thing is to take your time - The last thing you want is for the stickers to be squint.

I did mine in the summer, but still found it helpful to heat the panel up with a hairdryer to help the glue stick better. Not had any problems with the sticker coming off after loads of washes!

As to the placement....This is where everybody differs. You can place the sticker anywhere you like on the panel. I trawled through the gallery to find pictures of Type R's as I wanted to try and place the stickers where the 'official' ones would be.
A genuine Type R sticker owner could probably measure it for you, but generally they look like they are mid way between the wheelarch & door edge, and just above the crease in the panel that Robbo mentioned. So that is where I stuck mine .

Pictures of my sticker placement here.

kmmfc1 if they are the genuine Honda decals, they are a bit more tricky to fit as they are very thin transfers, but the backing paper that comes with them does help to align them as it is shaped to the car bodys shape. Have you read the instructions that came with them? They will crease very easily!! Make sure they are well soaked and stuck to the car before you try to remove the front sheet of paper.

I suspect Robbos and pjrs Type S decals are pvc self adhesive stickers, so are probably a bit easier to fix, but I believe the guy who sells them on ebay also does type R ones.

I think it's the dealer who fit the stickers rather than a machine at the factory. I have seen Type-R's with dealer fitted stickers that are totally in the wrong place and squint. I screwed up mine by putting it too much in the centre of the panel and a little squint as per this pic:

I think robbo51 has them in the correct position.

I'm gonna put a new set on in summer and hopefully can put them on right this time!

Would Honda's supaguard affect the adhesion of these stickers? I agree, Robbo 51 has got his spot on and I will be following his advice. Thanks

Regarding the placement of the Type R stickers - As I said in my original post, I trawled through the gallery to see the positioning of the Type R stickers on various other members cars. All the ones I found, which I am mostly assuming are dealer fitted, seem to be in a similar position to where my Type S stickers were placed.

Examples below:-

And a picture taken from the honda-access.com website
TYPE R Stickers.JPG

I'm not saying Robbo's are in the wrong place, they look perfectly fine there as well - just that the original Type R ones seem to be fitted halfway between the door opening and the wheelarch.

There wouldn't be (m)any alternative positions for the stickers if they were the size of the ones on the Type R Concept.

Why bother, they don't actually know what's on your car when you get it new via a leasing company. They tell the dealer what they want and the leasing company uses a contracted delivery firm which picks it up from the dealer and delivers it too you !

But... you can normally take them off with a hair dryer if your carefull

Not a real example, but a quick (crude) photoshop of what it could look like.

hi. Its is my red type r in pjr's post. The bottom pic. If you get the original badge and sticker kit from Honda the side stickers come on a clear backing sheet that are handed for the near/offside off the car. They are shaped to line up with the rear wheel arch, and the bottom of the skirt so they line up where they should be installed. Just make sure that the area is clean, and dust free. I used a water and washing up liquid solution to clean it and fit it. Make sure the area is fully wet and remove the backing, and place into position. You can move it about untill you have it in place, and then use an old credit card or something like that as a squgee to run over the top of the sticker to remove any air bubbles. Start at the centre of the sticker and work out towards the edges. Carefully remove the outer clear sheet to leave the type r sticker in position.

just take your time with it and all should be fine.

Its the badge that's hard to install!! LOL
