I applied this to front and back at the weekend, its brilliant and does make a difference. Although there hasnt been any rain since I applied it, I used to apply it to my Focus and I thought it was brilliant then, makes a real difference to the way the water is on the windscreen.
I found that it didnt really make the windscreen streaky, although if you dont clean it off properly it does leave smears that the sun catches and is very annoying/dangerous. This time, I applied it and removed it with a normal cloth and then went over the window with a microfibre cloth and im having no smearing/streaking. I havent heard anything about it damaging wipers, and it didnt to my focus, dont see why it would now? you should find you dont use the wipers as much anyway! Even if it does damage them, ill just buy some new blades |

Only use it on the rear window and the mirrors, seem silly putting it on the front when you have wipers anyway, so over time it will rub off.

Used it on the back screen of my cars for the last 6 years. It does exactly as it says on the bottle and wouldn't be without it. Never tried it on the front as like BG think the wipers are good enough.

dredging up (once again) from my notoriously dogy memory, I recall that:
The way rainx works is to basically make the glass more slippery - letting the water glide off in the slip stream. The concern is that when using your wipers, there is less friction for them to overcome against the glass. The motor is designed with a certain degree of friction to overcome, and still move the wipers at x speed. By having less friction, the same amount of power from the wiper motor therefore moves them more quickly. To exagerate the 'issue' for demonstration purposes, this could be thought of always running your wipers at full speed (without rainx), or, always driving everywhere in a gear lower than 'normal' This in theory could wear out your wiper motor sooner. BUT this is, as I say, all from my dodgy memory - unless it rings bells with anyone else? |

I did mainly want to apply it to the back, but as I was at it anyway, I thought I would do the front.
If what TTDegs is saying is true (makes sense) I wont bother doing the front again. And the last time I went into halfords about 2 weeks ago, they had some offer on RainX, cant remember what it was though |

I went to my local Halfords today to get some Rain-X... I thought they didn't stock it; I was looking in the car cleaning section, where I thought it would be kept. I asked a member of staff and they took me to the screen washer fluid stand which is where my local store keep it - £5.99, avoiding the delivery charge by going in store

Regret putting it on the front. It is good to see the rain beading off, but it has made my wipers smear much more than before |

I use it on the sides and rear, where it is really good.
Long ago, I tried it on the front windscreen, but had smearing problems that were really bad in street lighting. I also tried (briefly, and on a quiet motorway) driving without using the wipers. Perfectly possible, but very hypnotic - a bit like driving through a heavy snowstorm - not to be recommended, but an interesting party trick. |

The best product I've found is Perma Clear Stay Clean. You can use it on all windows (including around the home and on the glass in the shower). I've had a 500ml spray bottle 20 months now and there's still 125ml left. Front screen wipes crystal clear with the wipers. Rain just beads off other windows.
Perma Clear Ltd, 233 Shore Road, Belfast, BT15 3RF. 02890 775558. You can get a 'Glass Protection Pack' on Ebay for £8.50 (+P&P) comprising a 500ml spray bottle of Pro Clean AND a bottle of the Stay Clean. Ebay item No: 330027856423. |

Have used Rain X for years and it's one of a few products that actually lives up to its promises.
Use in on all the glass including windscreen and mirrors. Even use it on the house windows. Never had any smearing problems with it. The secret, I believe, is ensuring it is thoroughly rubbed off after it dries to a haze. I always make sure that I only apply it in good drying weather, ie. not humid conditions. After applying once and letting it haze, I then remove it with a non impregnated paper towel. Apply again, let dry to a haze and remove with more paper towel. One final thorough buff with a fresh piece of paper towel. Do not use any impregnated paper towels such as Bounty since these tend to smear - as can a microfibre unless it is absolutely clean. The paper towel I use is called M-Tork. Maintenance is a doddle, after washing just dry off with the paper towel for a smear free finish - and best of all I find the Rain-X only needs re-applying two or three times a year so it lasts for ages. |
