Scratch Removal?

Hi, was cleaning birdshit off the bonnet of my car today and guess what? Must have been grit in the stuff and cue small scratches. Is there any way to get rid of them with a compound or something? They are not deep but I can see them from an angle. I'm an idiot. I was taking it off to prevent the paintwork getting damaged...................

Give Meguiars Scratch X a go, might not get rid of them totally, but will definitely reduce the appearance of any marks, especially after a couple of applications.

Thanks! Must give it a go. The scratches are not that deep but you know that you will see them everytime you look when you know they are there. The T-Cut option seems a bit extreme on a new car.

Assuming you can't catch your fingernail in them, then you might get away with AG SRP or DoDo Lime Prime by hand or machine.
If not, then you'd be looking at something like Menzerna or 3M to remove them.
Alternatively, hide them under a layer or two of Bilt Hamber Auto Balm.

i've got the same model, same colour... and i remember when this happened to me. it's devastating. it was intentionally done by someone (haters!!) and i was fuming... never did find out who it was.

in any case, i used chipstick to cover it up till i could find a decent quote on getting it sorted. i used ChipsAway International - SMART automotive repair service.

the guy charged me £20 to get the eye off the scratch but at this point having had the car for a year, i just wanted it to be less noticeable, knowing a full paintjob would cost me hundreds. the £20 disguise did the job. now it is less noticeable unless you're up close to it (matter of inches), where you can see where it was keyed and the cover-up job.

i'd recommend them. very punctual and professional but as they operate on a franchise basis, this will vary.

Okay - Autoglym Super Resin Polish, and DoDo Lime Prime are hand application products, but can be used with a random orbital polisher.
The Menz and 3M Final Finish/Intensive Polish, and Perfect It III Finesse respectively are polishing compounds that are best used with a machine (rotary or RO) to get the defect removed, but that is generally only if the scratch is deeper or can be caught with the fingernail.

For lighter swirls/scratches like the above sounds, BH AB will hide/mask them more than SRP will, as it supposedly has more fillers.

How's that?

Use a tube Meguiars Scratch-X. Apply a small amount to a MF cloth and rub the affected area until the scratch-x appears to break down or dissappear. Buff with another MF cloth and repeat the process until the marks are gone. You may find this will take several goes. Finally use a filler polish like Autoglym Super Resin Polish and a wax of your choice to seal.

All of the above can be bought from Halfords.
