Angry Think i have been keyed!

Hi everybody i am new and this is my first post so i hope i don't make to many mistakes!
Got my new(to me) Honda Civic EX 1.8 NHB 06 on Friday and i love it.

Went out this morning and it looks like it has been keyed along the rear left passenger door, about 11". Less that 2 days and this happens!

As it is not that bad maybe it got scratched in the car park i was in on Saturday afternoon by a bag or a coat zip.

Any way, the scratch is not to deep, you can see a little bit of white under a couple of inches of it, but mostly it is light.

I think i can polish it out.

Can anybody recommend a good and easy polish for the job?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Thickplank and welcome to civinfo.

Let's hope it was accidentally done and not malicious. I am sure though if it was the latter it wouldn't be a light scratch.

I've not used it but I hear Meguiars Scratch X is very good. Maybe worth a go

Anyway don't let it spoil your enjoyment of your new car.

Life is to short to get upset about these things but you still do.
Will give that a try next weekend and tell you how it went.

Mine was certainly keyed sometime last week, right on the offside front door pillar and down to the white base coat. Sticks out like a sore thumb. The B-------s.

Yes as you say " the B.........s."

What pleasure anyone gets from doing it is totally beyond me, let's hope they get theirs, preferably painfully.

Think I will have a go at the paint, using the wooden cocktail sticks Dimply.
Then the very, very fine paper, to bring it level.

Aha you were listening then.

Be patient though I've only used that method on stone chips, not a scratch. You need to be very very gentle with the wet and dry and don't remove any of the original surrounding paint.

Good luck though

Will Do DR.
The one thing that I have and do need in my job is ----- patience.

Dean, If the ding doesn't have any sharp edges to it and the paint isn't damaged, it will cost around £45 +vat in the West Country.
The Company I have used in the past, charge by the panel, so they will do 3 - 4 dings for the same price.
Thats how quickly its done, using the right gear.

Forget Meg's Scratch X - you're down to the primer!
You're looking at a wet sand and polish job with touch-up paint.
Build the layers up gradually, using a hairdryer to dry them.
Make the last one proud of the scratch, then sand back to level with the rest of the paint.
Once you've done that, break out the machine polisher and some Menzerna or 3M polishes, and bring everything back to a nice glassy lustre.
It'll not be 100% invisible, but it will be seriously less noticeable unless looking for it.

Before you start though, and after polishing, use a 50% diluted (deionised water) solution of IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to wipe the area clean of any debris and dirt, and again to remove any polish dust/filler oils. Once you're happy with the restoration (no swirls etc) then reapply your wax/sealant.

Good way to stop them, wire a battery up to the paintwor from the boot, then just wait, won't hurt anyone until the touch bare metal (not much on the civ) or they key it to the metal, then they either go bang or their car key does (wrecks their key's coder ). I hate it when people are malicious like that.

had a good look in the cold light of day and I am sure its keyed. You can see a very faint line of white In some parts.
Could have been a lot worse.
May give chipsaway a ring, has anybody used them?

I've used em'; and found them to be very helpful, and good at their job, however they are a franchise and results will vary.

Good idea...

Wrench their toe nails off with plyers and they can then use 'em as a spoon.

For the yobs, it's a case of "fight with the sword, die by the sword" - if one day one similarly bull-necked spots them "at work" with his car, they're done
