Advice on new car paint protection

I've received my civic on monday. The dealer only woshed the car and gave it to me. I would like to hear suggestions on how to proceed to protect my paint after the next wash I will do propably on next tuesday.

Dealer washed it? Oh dear, in that case, put an order in now for a machine polisher and some 3M or Menzerna polishes to remove the free swirls they've probably given you.
If the paint isn't swirled (look under bright lights or sunlight), then thank your lucky stars, and get a good sheepskin wash mitt, two buckets (one shampoo, the other rinse water), and a decent range of products.
It'd be useful to know what products you can put your hands on over there, and we can advise as to what's worth doing so, and what to avoid.
