Rear window tinting

Hi,

anyone here who has there rear windows tinted? I'm having difficulty with the lowest rear window cuz it's not made out of glass. I had foil on it but that came lose. But now my dealers painted it black without foil. Looks great from the outside, terrible from the inside
Anyone some other ideas?

gew of us have same problem....I saw that ecko forum civic-fx forum has foil on it form outside but you can't see throu it from inside out and otherwise....or another solution is transparent sprey but form inside to out everything is blury

on one american site I saw that they have foils for headlights and tail lights and since this one on civic are same as rear windows foil would go easly on him to like on lamps....but only problem is the size they sell....(you can order and cut it your self but there isn't any longer then 1,22 meters and you need for window about 1,80m)....

Me too, I had my windows tinted by the dealer last week. It's a specialized firm that doing it at your local dealershop. I've payed 360 euro's or 280 pounds for the two windows and the boot. Unfortunately, when I picked up my car I discovered that only the upper part of the boot was treated . They don't do the lower half because it's plastic and foil wont stay put on that. I'm not happy with the result at all. When you look back from the center mirror it looks really stupid and I want to tint the lower half too. I don't know how. Idea's anyone?

Exclamation

guy that mine is booked in for tints with has suggested a spray paint from the like of B & Q that does the trick. he's getting it for me tho so will have to find out what brand / name etc. he's used it on the quarter lights / windows on a smart car that are also plastic

got to have a steady hand tho to spray yourself - thats why hes going to do it for me!!!! that and plenty of masking tape / newspaper round the area!!!!!!!!
will find out name

Hey,

I think it's still available, but in various car shops in the UK you can buy plastic headlight tinting spray in a variety of colours.
Obviously for window tinting you will go for black, but that seemed to work well when I sprayed the front indicator lights on a car of mine going back a few years now.

Here it is : Plastic Lens Colouring Spray | Lens Tinting | Demon Tweeks Motorsport, Motorcycle, Modifying, Parts and Accessories

Hey,

I practice my sparying on other things My hobby is RC model helicopters and their canopies sometimes require spraying if they are of the fibre glass nature.

Here is my latest just requiring a 2 pack clear coat lacquer to seal the colours in away from the high nitro fuels.

Ideally any surface should be keyed, the smooth glossy finish removed with wet & dry paper so that the paint has something to stick to. But of course on a car window this isn't really feasable as you will not be able to see out of it. Hence most plastic specific paints actually key into the plastic themselves a little, probably through a chemical action I'd imagine.

Once my Civic arrives I will be tinting the main rear window and rear quarters, will see what the smaller lower windows looks like after.

so to confirm - the spray youve used looks great / black from outside - but from inside eg through your rear view mirror its just white - but not see through? seems bit weird to me - like you say your get used to it but not great on a new car really
