Washing inbetween waxing?

Hello all,

After spending quite a few weekends experimenting with wax's I spent yesterday polishing the car with Autoglym SRP, then waxing with Dodo juice, and finishing off with Collinite. The result is spectacular, its a much wetter shine that collinite on its own, and the car looks amazing (apart from a door ding, thank you very much, anonymous vandal).

I don't want to put that much effort in again for a while, so what washing do I do until the next big wax? I don't want the next wash to wash away all my hard work, but to remove the surface dirt only.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Just use something like Megs Gold Class wash, or I think they do one called Soft Wash, but I'm not too sure about that.

If you want an absolutely blinding product (in my terms) look for AutoGlym Auto Gloss. You dilute it 100:1 so 2 teaspoons in every litre. Spray all over the car straight after rinsing, leave it 2 mins or so and rinse off again. Watch the water shimmer off as you rinse and it's nt bad at all for an in between waxes use.

I use Meguiars NXT Car wash (The best I've used)
Its PH neutral so wont strip the wax
Use a power washer first
Thats it!!
You wont need to wax it for many washes.
Takes me 10mins max

I need to 'de-tar' my CTR. Any good/safe product recommendations? I have used Autoglym on previous motors but with thin paint complaints about the Civics I am a little hesitant.

Anyone use a good tar remover lately?

Be careful with Megs gold glass as that stuff has a tendency to strip wax. One that I would recommend is Megs Shampoo plus, which is a much better product in my opinion and more economical. Other favs of mine are Chemical guys Citrus wash and gloss, and Chemical guys bodywash and wax. I would stay away from the Autoglym stuff its way overpriced for what it is, and the results are nowhere near as what you get from the ones I have previously mentioned.

As for de-taring, I would suggest a Sonus SFX ultra fine detailing clay and Sonus lubricant. Perfect for soft paints.

I thought it was the NXT that stripped wax.

As for the tar, try a clay bar.

To be honest all shampoos will strip wax if used at a too high concentration. So I guess the most important thing regards to shampoo is to follow the dilution instructions carefully. Don't just 'chuck a few capfuls in' - and one for luck. But I got to agree about the Dodo wax, that stuff is amazing! I been using the orange crush on my Milano red. The best (looking) wax I have used to date. Also the great thing about Dodo waxes is that you can use them over black trim and it won't fade them. GREAT!

I do exactly this too. No need for expensive tar removal products. Never had any problems.

To be perfectly honest, I have too and not noticed any wax removed. I thought I had read on DW that the Gold Class was kinder on wax than the NXT

Now the Dodo Wax, I'll have to bear that in mind, as I'm hopefully getting a Milano in the next few weeks.

Use a clay bar kit from halfords or online you would not believe the difference in removing any bonded contaminants.

Search the car detailing websites for tips on using clay bars and lubricants,as marring of your paint is one result of too little knowledge. It may take longer to polish out your efforts with the clay bar if you mess it up , but if you do a good job as said previous the results are well worth it
