Swirls/Scratches
Hey all,
Just wanted to start a thread on swirls/scratches.Had the car 2 weeks. I've spent a fortune on woolen mits, microfibre and all the meguiars gear. Car is still a mess with tiny swirls scratches. As soon as i see the car in sun/street lamp it looks terrible. Is this NORMAL for others or am i just making a mess with my wash/wax technique. Thinking i probably did it wish an over ambitous wax session. Doing my head in...... Whats everyone think? BTW I've got a Nightmare Black S |

I had mine Supagarded (and I've used their top-up cream as well) but you still get swirls.
Have a look at the Bilt-Hamber Laboratories link in this thread. http://www.civinfo.com/forum/cleanin...t-cut-wax.html I had a good read and following the recommendations decided to order some. It appears to build up a protective coating. Looks good to me. PS: Link is here: Bilt-Hamber Laboratories - Polish and Wax - Auto-balm |

Several coats of a good wax are the only way to prevent swirls, even then they are largely unavoidable.
The paint is incredibly soft, but after 12 months it does become harder. Bilt-Hamber Auto-balm is a good starting point, then some good wax (Collinite 917)...or vice versa. Apparantly B-H Auto-balm can be applied over wax |

I had the same problem, i used black coloured polish (turtle wax or halfords own make) before waxing, that solved the swirls |

I have just spent 4 hours washing and polishing my NHB Type R (had since Sept last year) and even after all the care in the wolrs, small swirl marks are still there but I have learnt to accept them otherwise I will go mad! I have my car supaguarded and used Supaguard's own brand concentrated car wash today, followed by Autoglym Ultimate Finish especially for black cars! Also had all the fancy microfibre cloths etc etc...car looks amazing but up close under street lighting there are still small swirl marks.....unavoidable mate

Honda paint is soft, and some paints can take up to 6 months to full outgas, and cure.
That said, wash technique/regime is all important, but with the likes of AG SRP and BH AB, you should be able to mask any small swirls/scratches, and get it professionally polished once or twice a year to remove them. Either that or invest in a machine polisher and pads/polishes, and do it yourself. Black is one of the most difficult colours to keep looking showroom fresh, but it's not totally impossible. Waxes/sealants/'expensive' treatments will not have any effect whatsoever on preventing the inevitable if you resort to dragging grit around on the surface. |

in my opinion...our paint is the worst ive seen for the money spent...ive started getting spots of paint missing around the fuel cap where no stones go at all... the layer of paint- that i paid the extra 375 for NHB.... IS ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL... one day i think i will get a full respray if i havent got rid of the car , but it WONT be by Honda!
