Unhappy Scratches

Hello people,

While cleaning my NHB Civic today, much to my annoyance I noticed that I have several scratches on all doors and the boot. The scratches don't look major and look as though they will polish out.

In the past on cars my family have had when scratches have appeared we have used rubbing compound and the scratches have just disappeared. I want to get some of this to use on my car but my fiancee will not let me as she thinks it will damage the paintwork and so she is willing to pay a professional to do this for us.

I was just wondering if anyone out there has used the rubbing compound on their cars or what they use to polish out any scratches they have had.

Thanks

I am having Honda repair mine.

Well I had one quote a while back but then found more scratches a week or so after. Im not happy with the way the car scratches so easily so I am having the paint thickness measured to make sure there isn't a defect. If that is all ok i will then have a new quote.

I am using Honda as I am worried the paint match wont be exact if I take it elsewhere.

I don't think the scratches are to do with the paint thickness as they are on the surface of the paint/laquer. I've had mine 'Supagarded' and I've applied 4 further coats of their cream to top it off, as well as 4 coats of Meguiars Gold Class and I still get minor hairline scratches on the bonnet, but they do polish out.

My car was supaguarded also, some of my scratches are quite fine and appear to be on the surface but they do not polish out, others are deeper.

Surely if you've T Cut your car, you've removed your Supagard protection in places? I don't dare do anything too radical as I paid through the nose for the Supagard!

That's true. You should go over any area you've T-Cut with 'Supagard Paintseal Cream'. It's one of the aftercare products that boosts the protective layer. You can but it on e-bay.

I have that cream in my pack, so after I t cut if I went over it to protect it, it gave the scratches a nice glossy glow

I would keep away from any bodyshop cutting compounds as they can be very abrasive and you will find it very hard to break down the product by hand, it sounds like you may have only marked the clearcoat as Allan has said, if so you will be able to polish them out but again it will be hard work by hand.
If there are only a few and you are working by hand try Meg's Scratch X ,it's easily available from Halfords.
The other option is to fill the marks, AG's super resin polish is full of fillers so is Meg's NXT tech wax, then there's Clearkote vanilla moose hand glaze which will also mask the marks.
As you have found out NHB shows every mark and the paint is very soft which don't help.
How do you wash your car ? as a poor technique could lead to more marks on the paint.

When do you have the time to polish that much with all those posts to do?

I'm retired and hardly have time for breakfast.

When cleaning my car I rinse it with my pressure washer as I have all my cars, shampoo it by hand using a lambswool mitt, rinse the shampoo again with my pressure washer and dry it with a terry towelling drying cloth..

What technique do others use?

*Me too; great 'aint it

It gives me some easy exercise, Charles. Bit of rubbing and bending does you good. I have room to polish in my garage so it's usually a 'rainy day' job.

Sounds good thought you might be using a sponge and washing-up liquid.
Only thing i would do different is use 2 buckets , one for shampoo and the other to rinse the mit in and not pressure wash off again just use the hosepipe without an attachment on so the water sheets off, which will leave less water on the car so less drying.

Red face

Just seen a bloke on tele called Barry Scott and he was shouting about a product called Civic Bang.

Didn't catch much of the advert but it could be something to get rid of dents maybe???
