Help needed in converting Gear stick
have just been reading athread on changing the gear knob, gaitor and facia.
i have managed to get hold of the gear gaitor, gear knob and facia from a type R. but i have hit a snag. i cannot get the facia to fit properly onto the dash. there is a plastic part that sticks out further on the bottom section (if you looked directly at it from above.) it won't hook under, which means the rest of the facia won't push down. do you think i will have to make any adjustments, or change the cradle that holds the gear ball in place. is there a difference between type r and s thanks |

Excellent thread, but that was the one i had read originally, the pictures are good but it doesn't show what it looks like under the facia panel.
i would be interested to see what the type r looks like under the gear change facia panel. i have a feeling that i might need this part Collar/Spacer (54103-SMT-E00) - £49.77 and this is what allows the new facia to fit over the gear ball. |

could some one with a type R do me a favour and take a picture of their gear change facia.
or more specifically, underneath it. i want to see if honda have used the same moulding to hold the gear stick in place. and if they haven't what is different. i think i might be able to modify the current moulding to work with the type R gear facia. and if i can it should mean an easy transfer of facias' between cars, and reduce the cost for others if they wanted to have the type R facia, gaitor and gear knob in their civ's |

hi guys
it is very hard to fit the type r centre console onto the type s or normal civics this is why the rings -on the type rs is different to the normal civic - the normal civic has the ball - then a dark grey ring, and then a silver ring yes? the type r has the gaitor and then a thinner silver ring with bolts around it also - the type r gaitor is held in by screws which go down deeper and thus its not a straight forward swap. you have to grind down the bolts underneath so its smooth to get a good fit and take out the holdings for the type r gear gaitor... take the gear gaitor holder out and make the underside of the darker grey panel from the type r smooth underneath so it will clip in then thread through the gaitor and just hold it in place by clipping everythin back down - dont screw it in anyway as it is on the R...takes a cuple of hours! |
