Bug splat 'tarnish'

Hi all,

Gave the car a once over (inbetween torrential downpours) today and noticed that where some of the bug splats had been, there has been left behind what I can only describe as a slight tarnish in the paint. I guess it's where the acidic(?) insect guts have eaten away at the paint a bit?

Anyway, what's the best way to get rid of these marks?

Cheers in advance,

Dave

P.S Washed and waxed the wife's silver Polo as well today. Sure was a relaxing, enjoyable experience after my NHB civic.

Yes... thank you. Like i said, washing the silver polo was great. Paint made from diamond or something. If I thought about my Civic's paint too much I think my head might explode.... oh hell, here it goes!!!

I've got Meguars ScratchX, would that do the job?

Cheers,

Dave

Are you able to purchase Meguiar's or Mother's Claybar? If so, that is what I would recommend and it is what I use to remove them. There is no hope for bird pooh marks though. They = death to paint.

If you don't have a claybar as dozer suggests perhaps you have some Autoglym resin polish, I use that for small blemishes that won't come off just by washing.

It has a very fine abrasive in it, but it is really fine and won't damage your paint.

Autoglym? I may have to put a search out for that. I haven't heard anyone recommend a resin polish before. Well, not over here anyway.

I no longer use it on the whole car, not since I was introduced to more superior products on here. But it still is useful for removing slight blemishes.

Autoglym - car cleaning products, car care products, car valeting, car detailing

Hmm.. looks as if I'll have research those superior products as well. Thank you. How do I thank people on this site? I see the Thanked and Thanks on the profile but how do I do it?

One of the products I refer to is Collinite 915 wax. It is excellent. And I actually bough it from the US as it was cheaper to do so that buy it here in the UK
