Before I saw the light (reflected from my civic!!) of Collonite 915 I used the Ice polish stuff and it brought it up with quite the shine. You can kind of go at it a bit willi-nilli also because it wont stain any of the plastic. Found it good for what it is but obviously gathering dust at the back of te garage now I have the good wax.

How much difference should I expect a decent wax to make?

This much: (See attached)

And if you can't get Collinite, try Megs Gold class, far superior IMHO, to Turtle wax (never liked anything but their emerald wash). The megs is about 14 quid and is easy to work with yet not as durable as colli' but will still give you a decent finish..... the attached pic was taking while looking at a dent, but the finish is from 5 coats of collinite and some QD to buff it up for the pic (thats why there are some marks, this was taken about 2-3 weeks after I had waxed it... and it looked good until I re-did it yesterday.. (second photo', forgive the quality)... I just wash mine with BH in between and some QD..... easy once you've applied yourself).

IMHO 915, gives good finish and is very durable, however others have their own preference, but any is good really.

Nope! It's usually classed as a "gift" or a "sample", which means they cant charge tax on it.
