Polishing Advice Wanted...
Hey,
I've had plenty of cars before, but never really bothered with polishing/waxing, other than using coloured t-cut polishes to coverup minor scratches etc. I've just bought a civic hybrid in silver, and really want to look after the paintwork this time. Where do I start - what products should I be thinking about, and which are relatively easy to get started with? I read that collinite should be applied in straight lines, so does this rule out a circular polishing machine from halfords, etc? Any advice appreciated. Thanks! |

There are many rules of thumb for applying wax. Each to their own! Applying in straight lines is meant to cut down on swirls. I have always Applied in circular motions, had no swirls! I also have an orbital polisher bought from halfords, works a treat!! Robbie |

There are so many different ways of cleaning and polishing/waxing that people adopt and by trying different methods you will arrive at one that suits you.
Lots of threads come up if you just type polishing in the 'Search' facility (see above). This is one for starters: http://www.civinfo.com/forum/cleanin...ng-regime.html Good luck. |

Well I've now ordered my full wash kit from Bilt-Hamber (Autowash, Clay and AutoBalm, with applicator and cloth), two wool wash mits from thesheepskinshop.co.uk, and I'm off to get some microfibre cloths and perhaps an orbital polisher.
Thanks everyone (in this thread and the many others!) for all the help, guidance, opinions and photos! Once it's all arrived and I've had time to give it all a go, I'll be sure to post some pics of my amateur attempt! |

You would need to buy a waterspray anyway as BH clay uses water as a lube...
I have still to use my BH clay, I cant wait as its the first time i have clayed my car since i have got it. "I cant wait"- i sound really sad dont I !!!!!! |

Yes rich!
NHB and I'm disappointed at how easily it marks Fine scratches just seem to appear. You only have to look at it and scratches appear. First and last time I have a black car. I've already used the touch up stick 3 times on the bonnet due to stone chips. I'm not a happy bunny if I'm honest! robbo, I've seen that thanks. That's what's prompted me to ask the question. BTW no need ot spray water for the clay I make it into a bowl and pour lots of water onto the surface, and then begin to clay and allow it to flatten, that way it holds some of the water to help you along, never needed to spray it to get it wet enough, I also find the tiniest drop of their wash into the water gives you added lube-effect (wow that sounds disgusting, but it isn't......I promise..... LOL).
