I'm going to opt for the Supagard type covering although I'm not sure that my dealer actually uses 'Supagard'. I think it is 'Diamondbright' or something like that.

However, as far as polishes go I have found Maguires to be good along with the T-Cut range of colour polishes that help fill in small scratches first.

I have also got a couple of the Maguires polishing cloths. All the other types I have used seem to just push the polish residue around the panels like they are magnetic whilst the Maguires cloths do seem to collect it better.

Order yourself some Maguiars Carnauba Wax (Stage 3) from the internet.

I got mine sent over from the UK as they don't sell any decent Wax treatments here on the mainland in Portugal.

The finish is like glass, with hardly any effort to take it off.

Superb!

A friend of mine had their Civic SupaGarded. Three things:

1. Look how cheap the kits are on eBay before paying a dealer hundreds of pounds for essentially - a bottle of liquid and a couple of hours work.

2. Once the car's been washed 2-3 times, it doesn't seem to make any difference anyway. Water no longer just runs off like they claim it will for several years and there's no evidence that any supergard remains on the car after this amount of time as far as I can tell. I did the left hand side of my car as an experiment and after two washes I can't tell any difference. I think a decent wax would work better - it visibly improves the look of the car and makes it much easier to clean. In fact it seems to get less dirty in the first place.

3. If poorly applied by you or a dealer, the white liquid seems to permanently stain the black plastic parts of the car. The Civic has a LOT of black plastic compared to most cars - so be careful.

OK, thanks for that.

According to the 'blurb' it's supposed to give a clearcoat finish that protects the paint for 3 years from all sorts of nasties. Applied by a specialist firm they reckon.

I'm not against polishing as I do it fairly frequently. Just thought it would save me some effort.

Also treated in the price is the inside carpets and seats (sort of scotchguard I suppose). Dealer quoted £150.

I haven't asked them to do it yet, they just gave me the leaflet.

Yes, Poor application, and it's £250 down the drain. I had my first smart done by the garage, and it was o.k, until I realised how much I could get the stuff on eBay.

I then applied the stuff myself, after claying the whole car, and it's excellent. The water beads off, and after a wash is sparkling. Ideal for a daily driver...

As for the Civic, it depends on the Colour, but on my Vivid Blue, Chemical Guys XXX Hardcore Paste Wax makes the flake really sparkle. Spit Shine it with some QD, and it really pops in the sunshine !!!

Vivid Blue 2.2 i-CTDi - After a good Detail

As mentioned on this thread though, mask off the plastic with tape before polishing and waxing ... makes life so much easier, else it's a toothbrush and a pot of Peanut Butter time ...

If you have your Civic Supagarded then they make a 'top-up' polish to keep it protected. Supagard Paintseal Cream.

I had GuardX treatment on my NHB ES, cost £300 for the exterior and interior treatment. Friends in the paint trade said it was worth having. Still not convinced about the exterior protection. I still have to spend alot of time getting rid of the water marks, but looks ok when I have finished. Next time, I would spend the money on good quality products, possibly Maguires. I have read several forums on car polishing and it seems to be the only way to go if you want a deep shine to your NHB, which is what I want. At least the wife and kids know what to buy me for birthdays and christmas, no more excuses that I am hard to buy for.

Talking of car cleaning, I got one of those Flash carwash systems, which was so good it is now in the bin.

Leaves no streaks or water spots - poppycock !

I find a good finishing off with a Vileda Window Cloth works wonders. I just can't get on with real Chamois leathers at all.

Are there any other good tips out there to stop the water marks, I have been using a Chamois leather, but I'm looking for something better.
The GuardX treatment requires a conserver to be applied once a month, it makes the paint finish very waxy, needs to beapplied to keep up the warranty. The small print informs you that you have to purchase the conserver annually from the manufacturer for the warrenty to be valid. They only supply enough for 12 months in the bottle.
My local Honda dealer did not know this and was surprised when I asked why it had not been pointed out to me.
Returning to the original thread buy the best you can afford after doing your research, as there just seems to be so many options. GuardX or similar treatment maybe what you want, wash & dry with no water marks

Cool

I used Meguiars Carnauba Wax back in October and was really impressed with the finish. The only thing is (and it may have no link at all to the wax) that I noticed the bodywork seemed to attract lots of tiny flies.

Treat yourself to the Meguiers Water Magnet. I got one for £7 on eBay.

Meguiars NXT Tech Wax is a brilliant product too.

As is Klasse All In One (AIO) or Car Lack Nanosystem.

Meguiars 'Gold Class' polish is good to use, with Meguiars 'Quick Detailer' for in-between use.

Quick Detailer is ace for giving a quick once-over.

The only surefire way to get rid of watermarks is to wash the car with shampoo, good rinse, then wipe away the droplets of water before they dry. Especially if your rinse water is from the tap in a hard water area.

This is where I find the Vileda Window Cloth ideal, I can squeeze more water out of it than a synthetic chamois. Just remember not to work the cloth too hard now that the paints are water based. Your not looking to completely dry the car with the cloth but just remove the beads of water that cause the spots when they dry.

When applying polish, work it in otherwise if you do have any water spots the polish will put a coat over them and then you will have difficulty removing them.

I would agree with Pj there, Megs Water Magnet do the job, I can dry the whole car down with out having to wring water out of the cloth.

i use turtle wax in a warm bucket of water, micro fibre sponge, and finish off with turtle wax nano tech polish.

dont forget to rinse with water 1st, then again after you have washed the body work then dry with a good quality chamois leather.

i wax about every 6-8 weeks, and try and wash the body every 4 weeks.

I have tried many different products over the years and this time I decided to take a gamble and spend some serious money on my pride and joy.
I bought some Swissol (now Swissvax) wax and gave it a go.
I am very impressed, not only does it give the best shine I have ever seen, it smells gorgeous and is easy to apply.
It is NOT cheap but IMHO it is superior to anything I have used on my bikes and cars over the years.
Also the microfibre polishing cloths are incredible in the way the shine just appears and deepens on the black paintwork of my civic.
They also do a special wax for wheels which contains ptfe and makes for easier cleaning.
From now on, nothing else will do for me.
Expensive, but worth it.
