Tint Windows or not?
Im thinking about tinting my rear window and rear side windows but am a little concerned it may look odd as you cannot tint the bottom half of the rear window.
Just wondered what everyones opinion of this was???? Last edited by Type S Bournemouth; 20th February 2007 at 01:11. |

FYI
In the UK some of the dark tinted windows are also illegal. Some traffic units have optical devices that can measure how much light is being allowed through the glass. For the windscreen & front side windows I think the figure is 75% of light must pass through. Rear window & rear side windows - go for it |

I drove an FRv for a few weeks with tinted windows, the car looked great but at night the rear view was not great for parking.
Bear that in mind, as the rear view on the Civic isn't that great anyway. |

i say go for it, i thought it was only the front windows that had a limit on them and all rear ones were ok.
i still say go for it. |

I do like tints, but I'm not doing the Civic. Going to trade it, in the next 12 to 18 months, so I'll leave it standard.

Imho do not tint them.
I would love to tint windows on my car but for two reasons I don't. Firstly as you mentioned you cannot tint lower part off back window. And secondly over here it's forbidden to tint front window & front sides, which imho makes it damn ugly having tinted and untinted windows on your car. When that stupid law gets removed (doubt it ever will) I'm insta-tinting whatever I drive by then. |

I hate winter cos I have to take my tinted pinlock out of my helmet and use my clear one.
See Mr CZ plastik I can behave if i want to. oh and yes it IS less than 70% tint. now, carry on being on topic everyone... |

Yes, yes, yes. I had my windows tinted by the dealer. You can't get the front windows tinted by law, but had the back passanger and back window sdone, it looks great. The bottom bit of the back window can't be done as the black tint will not stick to it, but its quite handy when driving as you can see out clearly. From the outside with the parcel shelf in place you wouldn't notice. I have a Black Sport Civic and have to say tinted windows look great.

i think im gonna go for it. I had my previous car tinted and it looked really smart. I think the civic will look even better with the windows tinted especially as my car is Deep Bronze which is a dark colour as well.
Im only getting the rear and rear side windows done. Not touching the front as you can only tint them very very slightly which is not worth it. |

It's possible to tint the lower side as well, we have some civ drivers who already managed to get it right. Will be very dark in there...

If you have the back half of the car tinted it looks unfinished go all the way.I have had cars tinted all round for the last 15 years the police have never said anything. It all depends if you give them good enough reason to stop you and the officer doesnt like your attitude,if your driving like a maniac they will get you on anything.I have been stopped several times over the years and nothing has ever been said.Honda have even got the windows tinted all round for me.The plastic cannot be tinted because if you ever want it off, they use an acid to remove it.

no i dont want to chance it cause if some policeman does decide to follow the rules then not only does it cost me to have the tints removed but also probably a fine etc and i cant be bothered with the hassle plus the worry of being pulled for it. On a coupe I think you can get away with having just the rears done and still look smart. You can get the fronts tinted upto a certain amount legally but its such a tiny percentage its not worth bothering. If you want to stay on the legal side that is which i do.
I was told the reason the bottom half cant be tinted is due to having to use a heat gun to apply the tint which would then melt the plastic. |
