Question About Tinting The Back Window

Hi!

This is my first post to this forum (or any forum for that matter) and i hope this goes to the right section...

but now the BIG question: does anyone have the lower piece of back window tinted? if so, with film or spray? and the most important question, is it still buble/wrinkle free after months/year exposed to the sunlight?

i've read that the window is somekind of plastic (lexan) and could cause film to bubble or wrinkle in direct sunlight due to lexan discharcing gases...

if anyone has found a way to tint the glass, please tell me about it!

SOME PICTURES WOULDN'T HURT ALSO!

waitin for my new civic 5d 1.8i sport nighthawk

Its perspex, and you gotta spray it, tinting will just fall off(N)

now im just tired of searching...spent 5 hours on the net searching for the way to get the perspex tinted, and this is all could think might work:

-spray tint, the kind that people spray on to darken taillights (not very good solution, messy to apply, inreversible?)

-perforated tint, the kind that is made out of hundreds of little dots (like the dots you see in the edges of windows in some cars). could work pretty good considered the possible outgassing people are talking about!

-tint film, reusable. its held on by static (what i understood) very cheap, could do the trick.

-just tint it! use normal tint and pro installer. someone on the net claimed to tint the window no prob, but i dont know how long the film stayed wrinkle/bubble free...

please people post your experiences, have you tinted the window, did the film stay there?

i cant be the onlyone who is figuring out the possibilities to tint that little devil of a window!

and also if you try any of the above tricks, let me know how it turned out, i have to live trough you guys (and girls) until i get my own beauty!

How long of a wait?

And welcome to the forum.

I saw an ex-demo car at Veho Koivuhaka last year and it had tinted windows. I'm pretty sure the lower bit was not tinted at all. They told me it would cost around € 250. And that's without the plastic bit.

There are some pictures in the Gallery section of cars with their windows tinted. I think most of those cars' smaller back windows weren't. They still looked good to me.

its supposed to come in april-may axis so couple of months...

but about the lexan window, people say it cant be tinted cause tint wont stick to it? it cant be fysically challenging because its pretty straight and just curved to one direction. i've read its done. but no idea if it stays on in direct sunlight for months

thats where the outgassing comes into picture. and if ge gives me a proper answer that it can be done, then i find out how. its just weird that nobody has not even tried to tint that lexan part, i cant be the onlyone that is concerned about it...?

and ive seen plexiglass workshop windows tinted with no problems even with time. but i will get a solution to this!!!!!!

maybe my cars pics can help a bit....I have tinted front and back lights with foil used just for plexyglass and now after 2-3 months foil is same and looks like the first day and when I get some time I'll tint lower back windows with it.....foil is Oracal 8300 and it has various colours to chose from. On my car is dark grey or so called dimmed foil....(I think number is 073 or 074; not sure)

The rear lower plastic window has a few long scratches on it, possibly made by the half wild village cat that has about 5 ASBO's on it.
Logic tells me that the coating on the window should be on the internal face, but before I use my cotton wool pads and Brasso to polish them out ------
Would you guys who know for certain, please inform me if this clear coating is applied by Honda to the internal or external surface.

Ring your dealer's service department and ask to see if they know.

Do you think they would know, or would Honda UK know for that matter.

I shall take my Brasso into the Dealership and ask the Service Manager to polish out the scratches. If he hesitates for just 5 seconds, with cotton pad in hand ---HE DOESN'T KNOW.

I should post the below all in their correct places really, but--
1.Took the car to the Dealer today to have the pads replaced as they agreed a good discount , due to my moaning about the wear in such a short time.
2. The lower plastic rear window is definitely coated on the external surface and if lightly scratched can be polished using Scratch X, says the the workshop foreman.
3. Had the firmware upgrade for the radio done and it is VASTLY improved. Living in the middle of nowhere, I have always had bad reception on my cars. They also unlocked the HFT, as Er Under The Dash shouted out without any prompting from me, her own security code- locking it, so being caught without any warning,
I couldn't remember it.
Back to 1. When I had a moan about the pads a few weeks back, the Service Manager looked at them and confirmed that as only 3mm of pad could be seen between disks and callipers, they certainly need replacing.
RUBBISH said the Technician who looked at them today - they have far more than 50% left on them, what's he talking about, the wheels should come off, in order to access a proper view and thats what Iv'e done.
So, what am I on about-- Well, that technician has saved me £180 less a discount and some service managers don't know sh--.
Best talk to guy that does the fixing, rather than the one who wants your dosh.
