Scratched trim

As everyone is aware the trim on either side of the dashboard perspex is very open to scratches and looks a mess after a while. However I was at a dealer today and have noticed that the New Type R has a trim made from a rubberised material. It looks fantastic and will NOT scratch. I have since made a few phone calls and am trying to find out if this part will fit the normal civic. Its a real bug bear of mine that the trim is such an appaling material. However this new rubber finish on the Type R looks the part to solve this little bug bear.

I have found out through the parts department that it is £42.62 plus VAT, but they are unsure whether it is going to fit. It looks the same, the knobs are in the same position so I don't see any problems. However I am not splashing out on new trim before knowing if it fits. I have spoke with Honda UK and they are having to e-mail the factory to discover if the trim is going to be a perfect fit. However they did say this will take some time. My dealer is also onto the case and may have some findings to report.

Is anyone else aware of the rubberised trim on the new type R and has anyone else asked the same questions.

As and when I get some information I will let the forum know.

I had noticed it in the photos. Looks OK, might suit the 'R' interior better though, it is sportier looking.

maybe, but it will look a damn site better than the material we have currently, the current material makes the car look aged before its time.

As the dash is the same it will fit; it's just a case of making sure you have all the switches to fill the holes in the Type R panel.
Not sure on it being rubberised though I thought is was just a 'golf ball' effect plastic.

Well I thought that it was more of a carbon fibre effect stuff, seeing as the R is a sports job?

Don't know about it being stuck on either, looks more to me that they've used a different (2 part?) moulding for that area.

Would be nice that though, instead of scratches and marks. If that fails, then I'm just going to get some adhesive sticky and coat it with that, at least it will stop the marks a bit (and the scratches moreso)

Why make the car with a silly material? That's so un-Honda... that's "More backwards - No thanks" instead of "More forwards please"

Right quick update
If you have the car with the headlight switch that adjusts the horizontal height of the headlights then this part from the type R will fit fine. I have spoken to Honda Uk who have spoken to the factory and the only difference is the knob for the headlights. If you don't have height adjustable headlights then you will have a hole with no knob in it (so to speak). I have placed an order with my dealership and will be looking to have it fitted, or fit it myself. For £44 quid and no more horrible looking piano finish it is well worth it. However I can't find any instructions on how to remove the old piano dash trim, any help with this would be appreciated. Don't want to break any clips. I will also post some piccy's once it is complete.

The car is going in for warranty work this wednesday and the part should be waiting for me. However the perspex in the middle of the dash needs replacing under warranty and once this is sorted I will have the part fitted, could be a couple of weeks depends on Honda UK with regards to the perspex in the centre of the dash.

I hope the delay is not a bad omen.

Are you any closer to a definite answer.

Sorry for the delayed posting of the pictures. Finally got round to having it done and the dash is now 1000000000% times better. No more scratches for me hohoho.

Hi Heysidays,

Just wondering did you get the perspex in the middle of the dash replaced under warranty? Did you have a fight on your hands to get it done?

I have to ring up shortly to try and get this and the rest of the dash replaced asap this morning once the garage opens.

Thanks

No, no problem at all. Just demand it to be done.

Thanks Heysidays - spoke to the delear this morning, who informed me the dash was hard to keep - no s**t sherlock!!!!

I said that it looked in certain light if the valet wiped the dash with a grit filled cloth. He said he would speak to them and then get back to me about getting dash replaced. With hindsight I wish I told them not to valet the car prior to pickup!

Cheers
