Unhappy horrid smell

Ive had an accident in the boot, where i was taking a bin bag full of rotten leaves and garden waste to the skip and the bag burst.

There was a large amount of what i can only discribe stinking glupe over about 50% of the boot.

I have cleaned it using warm water and a soft carpet shampoo and sprayed it with frabreeze but the smell just wont go away

Can anyone suggest anything to use until i have time to get it valated next week.

Try sprinkling on some bicarb, leave for a while then hoover up - it's supposed to be good at neutralising smells (Kim & Aggie swear by it....)

i once spilt milk in a car and it took me ages to get rid of the smell and was told by some body to use shake n vac to leave it for say on hour and then vacuum it and it worked ,was a few years back so not sure if you can still buy it , there is nothing worse than a bad smell in a car good luck .just seen it on e-bay so still available

This is an unhelpful reply, I just read the first part and burst out laughing.

Unhappy

Well, I had the same problem when a (drunken) mate I was doing a favour for as a taxi - barfed all over the seats in my prelude all those years ago...

I swore (a lot!) by the shake n vac treatment...

Also, try loads of fabreze (even just POUR the damn stuff on) and also get one or two of them in car neutradol thingies (I got one of those in the car as it is)..... other than that, you're looking perhaps at a proper valet...

I'd invest in a proper kosher boot liner and/or some stronger bags too.

Well the only thing I have ever found really good and getting rid of bad smells on carpets etc is a really strong solution of Persil (Colourcare - the purple one) biological liquid gel! It has a really strong fragrance and is really good at neutralising smells.

Maybe try the bicarb first! Whatever you clean it with leave the boot open at every opportunity so the air can circulate

Hope this is of some help

The best stuff that I have found is called Odour Eliminator. It is usually sold by vets for getting rid of the smells from pet accidents. It uses enzymes to get rid of the organic material. Spray it on liberally, then keep the area damp for a day or so. If all else fails, this one will work.

I think it costs a fiver or so.

Some pet shops sell similar stuff, but the vet supplied one is the best.

You really don't want to know how I decided that this stuff is so good. And no, I'm not that ancient!

Try Coca Cola and not the diet stuff, the real stuff- sponge it in and let it dry then use a damp cloth over the whole area and let dry.
Tried this on a BMW when I had a milk spill over the whole of the boot one sunny day - you can imagine the smell. Took a few attempts but worked in the end.
Hope this helps you.

onions will do the trick

If all else fails, try chopping a couple of onions in half and leave over night might do the trick as it absorbs the smell - but do put in container of some sort though!.

It worked on my previous car when it had a bad water leak onto the carpet.

I have tried that stuff in doors and it hasn't worked, when my last dog was really old, he couldnt get on his legs in time to ask to go out bless him and the smell from his urine was so awful I had to pull the carpet up and throw it away.

Tried everything on it, apparently white vinegar is supposed to absorb odours, all it did in my house was make the carpet smell of urine and vinegar which was even worse lol

Now I just use the Persil first time for any nasty smells and it works for me everytime.

have you tried renting a steam cleaner? or an industrial carpet cleaner?

febreeze doesn't get rid of odours, it masks them making the carpet/upholstery sticky and shouldbe taken of the shelves.

Kim and aggie solutions work well, lemons, bicarb onions etc...

but i reckon a good steam clean/ upholstery cleaner should work well

The only sure fire way is to strip everything out and then shampoo it. Whilst it's drying do the inside of the car with some of the afore mentioned treatments.

All,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I used bicarb firstly which really helped, I then moved on to using Odour Eliminator which i feel has just masked the original smell.

Anyway the car is now drivable without the windows open, but I have it booked in for a valet tomorrow.

Thanks Again,
M
