what do you use

Hi guys,

what's the best stuff for cleaning the external trims I.E the honeycomb grill etc.And once you do clean them with it do you then have to do it all the time?
Also whats the best stuff for the inside trims I.E dash etc...........and again once you use it do you then have to use it evertime?
Finally,
I have noticed some well baked dust on my alloys(only in the corners) the rest are mint.Is it just a case of breaking it down a little at a time (im currently using muck off)
or is there a cleaner that will do it straight away.

cheers guys

theres such a vast range of products nowadays the choice is endless.
i've always used meguirs products for trim/interior etc great .
but always used wonder wheels for getting rid of that nasty brake dust build up.....muck off wow i used to use that back on my mountain bikes back in 1990 its still going then.

I used Meguiars Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner on my Storms the one & only time so far. They looked great ... anybody had any problems using this stuff on Storms? Just wondered cos of the different finish - the products claims to be universally fine tho.

Why do you think you need to use anything other than normal shampoo? Are they faded? Covered in polish residue?

I love 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Don't cover them in polish or wax, keep them clean and dry them and they should be fine imo. If they fade over time, try the 303 stuff I mentioned.

When it (1.8 ES, NHB) finally arrives it'll be polished with MER and then cleaned outside for £6 or inside as well for £12 by some great lads on the Oxford Road in Reading.

Used MER on all six of our Civics and it does a great job.

Mike.

Standard weekly wash takes me around 1.5-2 hours, but I take my time to avoid inflicting any damage. Every other week I do the windows and interior.

Every 2 months I protect the paint, do the engine bay and dress trims inside and out. Around 3 hours extra.

Every 6 months I polish and protect. Say another 2 hours - an entire day almost.

Every 12 months I go insane, take all the wheels off, clean them until spotless (no brake dust or tar), wash inside the arches, clay, polish, protect, windows, trims, interior, engine bay... do everything to a silly standard... takes 2 entire days.

Set up a business? I'm just an enthusiast, by no means an expert. A few others on this site seem to enjoy detailing like me too.

Check (expect I don't get chance to do it every week any more )

Blimey... err, makes me think that my £7 per week at the hand car wash may be a tad inadequate! I'll maybe step-up to a bit of a waxing afterwards...

Wife, daughter, drumming in a metal band & work all take too much of my time to be able to get into that level of cleaning. You must really enjoy it & your cars must look amazing!

it is a very satisfying 'job' - even when it rains afterwards!

And the water all beads up.... *sigh*

The longest it takes me to wash mine is every 3 months or so when I use all 3 steps of the Megs clean/polish/wax jobby. That can take 3 or so hours plus an hour and a bit to wash and dry the car to a level that you can then polish, nothing worse than getting bits of water running down the poish as you are trying to apply it.

I am surpised at the MER comment. I tried it on my NHB and it made a right mess; I now use it on the wheels only, but I will never put it on my paint. Meguiers makes a much better job.

What does it "protect"? Is it just from every day dirt/chemicals etc, or does it acutally make it tougher against chips etc?
