windscreen small stone chip

Just back from 4 day drive round wales covering 750 miles - no problems. Next day driving 2 miles from home stone kicked up from car in front hit windscreen right in drivers line of sight. Very small chip which not too easy to see when screen dry. However when wet wiper catches it and leaves line either side.Had autoglass guy round who said couldn't do anything as would make it worse. Not happy. However would be even more unhappy if chip out of bonnet. Wonder if it can be pollished out? Any ideas?

git it filled by auto glass, and your insurance will pay the bill (full comp).

I've had my share of windscreen cracks

I just found out a previous stone hit has cracked the screen (about 4 inches). And next week I have to trade this car in.....

I hate these stones. Had my windscreen replaced twice on my last 2 previous cars. One time it was after carglass dude filled the hole with resin. I arrived back at the car after 4 hours to find out it cracked through anyway. Since then I never fill the holes anymore. Just leave them and hope they don't become any bigger. If the screen get's hit 2 or 3 more times, you can always decide to replace it then.

How big is the chip?

I had one on a previous car that was about the size of a 5p and they invisibly fixed it.

The one on the other size was too small to fix properly (2mm) so they 'pit filled' it and it was hopeless, looked like a dead spider.

Hi yes it is very small say 2mil and I am afraid filling it will make it worse - which the National Windscreen guy said it would. If only it was a few inches either way it would not be in my line on sight so much. Very small but very annoying. When its raining the wiper seems to catch it and leaves a small line of water each side. He did give me details of a windscreen specialist not too far away and I will go and see him. Outside chance perhaps can be pollished out maybe - although suspect too deep for that?

I used a glass polishing compound from scratchglass.com to polish out a couple of scratches on my windscreen.

If it near the line of sight and it leaves a mark in your line of sight then it could fail an MOT.

If they 'pit fill' it then you should not get the residue from the wipers.
