Wax/Sealant/Stuff for lighter colours?

Okay folks, what's a good choice for finishing an Alabaster Silver spaceship? Most of the product suggestions I've seen are either for or made by people with NHB or Milano red. From all the (slightly confusing) things I've been reading, darker colours benefit from proper waxes and lighter colours work better with synthetic stuff.

I'm happy with the finish at the moment (Supagard) and the small kit of shampoo and 'paint seal cream' that came with it seem to work pretty well. I just want to know what, if anything, will be good and shiny and protect that finish when it runs out. Shampoo (and anything to go on in-between) suggestions welcome too.

Many thanks and apologies if I missed this in a previous thread.

I use the Jeff's Werkstatt Acrylic Kit on my Cosmic Grey. It's available from http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk and well worth the money as it is very durable. It is recomended for all silver/grey/white etc.

Thanks!

I have been looking round polishedbliss a lot over the last few days it was mentioned in another post. It does seem pretty good. I've ordered a lot of stuff now, including the JEFFS Werkstatt Acrylic kit. Looks good. I was looking at the Blackfire stuff too, but it sort of read as more appropriate for dark colours.

I'll post some piccies when i've got it and tried it out.

I've just had mine Supaguarded by a friend, hence no care kit. What does Supauard recommend on top of their product?. My mate said to put nothing on because a polish will remove the treatment. What about a wax?. I must say however that the Supaguard finish is much deeper than my last polish with Meguires.

The Supagard stuff that came with the car seems ok. I'll soon be out of shampoo, which prompted this thread. Mine's certainly very shiny, even though it's been rained on today. I'm just after something to get the most out of the finish.

The guarantee does not specifically say that their shampoo and sealant cream are needed, only recommended ('Use a good quality shampoo such as Supagard Shampoo'). I'm not going to polish mine in the near future certainly, although there's no mention of this being bad in the guarantee. The sealant stuff I've ordered is going to be used to 'top-up' what's there.

The 'must' bit on the guarantee is to do with bird poo and tree sap etc and having it cleaned off. I have no idea how they could tell if you had used used their stuff to clean it off. Especially if you don't have to use their shampoo / seal stuff normally anyway.

I guess we'll see

The Acrylic Prime will more than likely strip the Supaguard as it is a paint cleanser with added sealent. You then add layers of Acrylic Jett as the main sealent coat.

The Jeffs kit will essentially do what Supaguard does but better IMHO

As implied above, I'm probably going hang fire on the Prime for a while. I've also ordered Jeffs Auto Body Wash for 'step one'. Then use the Acrylic Jett if the surface is looking good. Having just washed it yesterday it became the shiniest car on the street by miles. I'm hoping that lasts!

I have had a look through the Supagard guarantee, it definitely does not say 'do not polish' anywhere. Perhaps it can withstand a bit of polish?! You never know.

How agressive is the Prime by the way?

Prime is a chemical cleaner/polish which removes the muck from your paint and then seals it, leaving the surface "primed" for the coat of Jett. It will remove the initial Supaguard coating as will any paint cleanser.

You may find that the Jett will not bond with the Supaguard coating as it would with Prime. If you give Polished Bliss a call they will be able to advise if there would be any problems with this.

Try using this;http://www.motorgeek.co.uk/optimum-sizes-p-167.html , had excellent results with it on silver / grey paintwork. Very easy to use as well.

Thanks. The order is in for the Jeff's stuff. I'll get in touch with them to see about effects on / use with the Supagard.

The Optimum stuff looks to be similar in concept to the Acryllic Jett but using wax and synthetic stuff.

It's a bit of a minefield this cleaning cars lark! At least the spaceship is still shiny, despite the rain...

This has been confirmed by the chap at Polishedbliss, who also said that he got into car care more seriously as a result of being disappointed with Supagard on his own car!

He's suggested that I go for it with the Jeff's and it should be more durable and shiny. Result.

You live and learn!

Will attempt before and after piccies when done, if the sun ever comes out again.

As I have said in other posts, and other guys tend to agree.

The 'Diamond Brite' sorta stuff is good.

But to many people's experiece, inc. mine it doesnt last!

All I've done is put Turtle Wax Platinum on as the basic polish.

Used that product 'cos it came out best in the Auto Express survey.

Then after washing, ( Almost any product will do & that includes Tesco Wash and Wax!) I bung on some Megs 'Speed Detailer'.

I don't reckon that finish can be beaten, and if it can, no one will notice!

It looks good at the moment to me. I intend to keep it that way if I can. I'm not too upset about the bad rep that the finishes get cos I got pretty good deal, and I did get the interior done, which seems to have a more serious guarantee.

I'm just hoping I do notice an increase in shininess!

This is what the spaceship paint looked like after the prime. Haven't had time to use the other stuff yet, but it's looking shinier, and deeper already. Hopefully I'll get chance to do a proper job on Monday.
