type r diesel

Forgive me for this thread but i was just thinking should Honda make a type r diesel, i mean Seat has the Ibiza cupra diesil, and Audi have there sport diesil so do Volkswagon aswell so i was wondering if it would be a good idea if Honda had there own sports diesel.

What do you think

And the Type-S diesel isn't this? I imagine that one possible new model for the future will be a hot Type-S diesel with a bit more power and a slightly spammed up interior (a bit like the MK4 Golf GTi diesel, or the MK5 Golf GT diesel), but there will never be too much R in a diesel, to preserve the R brand. There was enough uproar that the current R wasn't a proper R!

Yep, that's the kind of thing. The Golf is 170 bhp, so I imagine that that would be a good benchmark.

Of course, if you can't wait, buy a Type-S, get it chipped to 180-190 bhp and glue on a spoiler....

The 'S' is already a warm hatch (although so is the 5 door), but a sportier variant is possible, agree with Pottsy that it wouldn't wear the R badge.

it's an fr badge on the seat and a gt badge on the golf..
In my opinion type-r stands for a petrol and high-revving car. No way there will be a diesel type-r

It's bad enough that the Civic has a diesel option in the first place.

......but a Type R diesel?

Don't see Halford's running a diesel in the BTCC races!

There is a BMW 120d running the BTCC this year, with Peugeot and Audi both contesting this years Le Mans with diesel powered cars.

I think an advanced diesel like Honda's 2.2 would be perfect for race development, especially if JCB could get 300MPH out of a couple of digger engines!!

Well thats true, the 2.2 has plenty of potential, if you think that Rally cars produce upwards of 300bhp from 2.0 petrol engines.

There's a big difference between just having the styling of a Type-R and also having the performance. Take the M package for BMW. You don't get an actual M type BMW, but a lot of it's styling.

So an R package on the 5 door and Type-S might be a good option. But engine wise, I don't think Honda should do anything. The diesel is great the way it is. I expect more to happen in the green/hybrid area. A Type-G perhaps. Near zero emisions, but still having performance that inspires.
