Ding Guard

Not sure if anyone else has used these. My girlfriend bought some a few years ago to protect her StreetKa when it was parked and it seemed to work really well (no dings!). Have put them in the boot of the Civic for use when I have to use a tight parking space.

I thought they would be easy to nick but to be honest, I don't think most people would notice them or even know what they are.

Of course, the clever thing to do would probably be to try and colour code them, but as they are flexible strips I don't know how that would work

They are longer strips than the door, so you can't get back in the car without removing them.

As I say, they were used on the StreetKa (which was also prone to dings) whenever it was parked in an NCP type carpark and she didn't get a single ding.

LOL

I can imagine someone jumping out to apply the "ding guard" and smacking the door into the car next to it.

A good idea I suppose but I dont think I could be bothered to put these on even with my paranoia over the car, and it makes the car look rubbish, you might as well go and buy those clip on door trims with the reflectors on so you dont catch the door edge on walls as well!

Trust me, the looks of the car are irrelevant if you are parked in an NCP car park tight space with a couple of people carriers each side! Also, don't forget they get removed when you get back and rolled up and stowed.

I'm using them anyway Want to try and keep my car ding free for as long as possible!

If you have a spare wheel in the boot you could also hang that on the side with some rope...
Or you could use bubblewrap to package your car each time..

LOL Sorry Minkster

I tend to park away from the masses at the moment but no doubt will be thinking "I wish I'd got some of those ding guards" when I finally get the guts up to park it less than 4 miles from the supermarket and some bugger knocks my door!

I do have the city pack side protectors though I'm not sure how effective they'd be against massive landrover!

Minkster, for what it's worth, I'm with you!. Its cheap to take the ****, but a hell of a lot more expensive to get dentmaster out to fix your car. They are not the prettiest thing in the world, so what. I'd rather have a temporarily ugly car than a permanently dented one. Is there a uk dealer?

I don't know if there is or not. I do know though that the US people were very helpful via email (it was a couple of years since we bought them) and very prompt at shipping though

What is the backing like? Will they damage the paintwork?

After getting dinged today and last week I am very interested in these.

Like the previous question what is the back like and how do they stick on the car?

Knowing my luck I would have these on the person parked next to me would miss them and still dent my baby

Its basically two square rubber strips that are rolled up when not in use. The back of the strip is magnetic and can easily be taken off and put on (and can also be positioned, if for example you have someone parked next to you who may come back to their car with very high doors then you can position accordingly).

You do have to be a *little* careful when putting them on as if you do put them on and then move them around to position - instead of taking off and reapplying - there is a risk you could cause a light scratch to the paintwork, although this is just common sense I guess.

I just tend to keep mine for those times where your gut feeling is that the car is at high risk of parking dings (ie. NCP car parks, busy supermarkets etc)
