Rough paint finish

Hi All
I’ve owned my second hand Vivid Blue Pearl EX for 5 weeks, although about 8 days of that the car has been back and forth to the dealers to correct, what I think is, a lot of faults for an 18 month old car…this has made me feel uneasy about the car!! Makes me wonder how the previous owner looked or didn’t look after it and what else is wrong with it…

Any how, I’ve just washed my car for the second time (dealer has done on other occasions) and this time paid a little more attention to finish…and to my horry/disappointment/frustration the bonnet and top part of one of the wings has a rough finish to touch, and has lots of swirls on it (the rest of the car hasn’t got any swirls).

When you wipe your hand across the bonnet it feels rough and grainy, not smooth at all like the other panels…I kind of expect my hand to be covered it grit or dust or something, but nowt. I have used M Gold liquid wax, which has given it a superb finish, but it, still feels rough to touch!?

What do you reckon is wrong?

Do you think the paint job hasn’t been finished properly or has it been poorly re-sprayed at some point? Or, has someone used the wrong cleaning product (one not for paint or a bit too abrasive)?

Oh…it’s a great website…found lots of useful information already 

If it's just the one panel, I would suspect a poor respray. Best see what the dealer says, after all, the car is still under warranty.

I dont thinks its that as my two rear quarter panels that lead up to the roof and part of the roof have the same feel to them, almost like its covered in sand and those panels have never been re-sprayed (as far as I am aware)!!

Afew people on this forum have commented on the same thing, I think its just the poor paint finish that Honda provide and the swirls are also extremely common.

I doubt the way the previous owner looked after the car has anything to do with the problems, more like they got rid of it because of the problems. I noticed yesterday my local dealer have loads of used civics for sale now.

You have rights under Sale of Goods Act even if your car is second hand.

Another thought, multiple small stone chips have been touched up by the dealer using something like a nib applicator. Some dealers do this prior to selling a secondhand car. This will give a virtually invisible repair but will be detectable by touch. Possibly they buffed it afterwards, hence the swirls.

I've just been out to look at the bonnet again (noticed the roughness late evening after a quick wash) and noticed this time little solid bumps/lumps (not sure what to call 'um). Tried to take a picture cause now they are clearly visible to the eye, but the picture doesn't show 'um.

I've got someone coming round and have a look in a minute for their honest opnion (they've been in the paint spraying business for 16 years), so it will be interesting to see what they think...I'm sure their say it's just a crap finish!
