Wax maintenance
After having my Civic for a week, last weekend I spent a good few hours cleaning and polishing it. I used the Maguiars 3-Step set of products, and was pretty pleased with the result.
I have a question though. Since I've waxed it, its been rained on a couple of times and so isn't looking as good as it did. Whats the best way to get it back the way it was? Do I have to wash it again, then re apply the polish and wax? Or just the wax? Does the shampoo strip the wax off? Whats the best way of maintaining it please? Thanks |

You should be able to just wash it and dry it if you did 'the works' at the weekend. If you want a guide, try http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...ides_wash.html -seems pretty sensible as a plan.
I tend to put a little bit of sealant over the top if I get time. It's peace of mind and keeps things looking properly shiny. It only probably needs sealing once a month. 'polishing' only every 3-6 months. Since it appears you have a NHB, you may be washing quite a lot. |

As I am not a polishing freak like some, I go for the easy option. With this in mind I bought a pack of ArmorAll (USA) Exterior car wash wipes. Pack of 10 large wipes for £3.99. Tried them the other day and was quite pleased with the result (black Civic) Don't know if polish would be any better, but it doesn't take as long ...45 mins.

Meguiar's have the NXT spray wax you can use to fresh up the gloss in between waxes. It can be applied on dry or wet surface and will buff out easily.
If you get the right shampoo, it does not strip off the wax. A great meguiar's product is the NXT car wash. The wax will be removed if you use dishwashing soap, for example. I don't think the Exterior car wash wipes are a good idea, as you will be wiping the dirt (even if it's really small) around the paint, thus risking to create light scratches. Washing a car with water, shampoo and a microfibre wash mitt is always better. Last edited by lo/rez; 8th July 2007 at 01:57. |
