Brake Dust

I am really suprised how dirty the alloys get with brake dust. I have the 19" rages on my CTR, not sure if its any different with the other honda alloys?

Does anyone have any tips on how to protect or keep them clean?

Donīt use the brakes!

No seriously, there are some aftermarket treatments for alloys to make them easier to clean, some kind of protective coating, but I have not tried any of these myself.

The Civics do seem to create rather a lot of brake dust, just use Wonder Wheels or similar to keep them clean. The only other option would be different pads but I have no idea which are better

i used "EBC Green Stuff" brake pads on my previous car, they were awsome. Hardley no brake dust, i would reccomend them to anyone. They also braked better than the standard pads aswell.

you can get brake dust covers for about 12 pounds each but the only prblem there is to check pads you have to remove the wheel

thanks for the prompt response, not sure though if this company can supply for UK spec vehicles - I'll e-mail them and ask. As I need some for both the Civic and also our Passat.

The only problem I can think of with covers is the brakes will get even hotter.
I used to have a Zafira DTi with steel wheels and trims and when I put 5 spoke alloys on the wheels were a lot cooler after 'spirited' driving. I saw some Zafiras with warped trims so I was not the only one!!

I use Turtle Wax, Brake Dust Barrier on Millie's wheels.

It obviously does not stop the dust but seems to make it easier to clean when they do get grubby.

......and it gives the alloys a nice shine!

I've read that Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 is the business when it comes to protecting your wheels. Applying several coats will stop brake dust etc clinging to your wheels, allowing you to easily clean with just soapy water.

Hope this helps,

so far for me 1000kms in my new car, ive not had any major dust build up,washing it once a week and doing the wheels with the same shampoo, nxt wash.
As the wheels are still new and silky smooth (is that lacquer), this may be why so far, its been easy.
But it might change, so i want to get some kind of wheel protect. I saw the brake dust barrier by turtlewax, looks good, but are there any other recommendations out there?

Check out the pictures of the gold Subaru wheels part way down this page to see how well Jetseal works. I'm thoroughly impressed...

Should I wax the wheels after washing them?
Would I use the nxt spray wax or something different to do this or is there even a point to it?

I use Karcher Universal cleaner bucket and sponge on the cars and on the alloy's
and both come up a treat each time

No need for these powerful chemical alloy wheel cleaners
at the end of the day they are more likely to damage the alloy
