Pure Guard, anyone tried it?
Yet another treatment ive been offered by the dealer as an alternative to supaguard - its called Pure guard. Welcome to Interclean : The benefits of contract valeting
Website says almost nothing about it. Asked the sales person, if he is giving a 6 yr guarantee on paint work under what conditions would the guarantee not be provided as a guarantee from future "civic swirl marks" ? He didnt know, but dropped his price to £150. Anyone know anything about this paticular treatment and how it varies in effect with others? Thanks |

psykik, can I please ask you to embrace a bit of non-laziness via a detailing routine and put these various 'guards out of your mind.
Until one comes up with conclusive PROOF that it does what it claims to, it's all pure hearsay and marketing spin. There is NO alternative, that I know of thus far, that replaces the time and effort spent regularly doing DIY detailing or employing others if you really are so lazy/short of time. If my posts elsewhere here still haven't persuaded you, then buy one of the treatments - they're all the same baldilocks repackaged with rehashed exaggerated confuzzlement. Let's get one thing clear - painted bodywork MAY be porous, but not so porous that water or other molecules can penetrate. This is the whole point of not doing anything to a newly repaired/repainted car for at least 30 days after - it takes that length of time for the paint and clearcoat to cure (which is really harden) fully. Think of it like glossing the doors at home - it takes a while before the paint is dry (cured) enough to not show any fingernail imprints, etc and become tough enough to withstand the knocks and bangs it gets, without showing a mark. |

PJS, im a novice in the cleaning dept, i wouldnt know where to start. I read the posts in the cleaning section and found one great one here http://www.civinfo.com/forum/cleanin...-kit-list.html <----- this is what id do if i really went for it for sure!
What i can see is a dedicated effort of 2-3 hours a week. I dont know if im going to have that kind of time. I would occasionally, but not always. I'm honest enough to admit I'm a lazy kind of driver, just like to get in and go, minimum fuss about cleaning but i do like it to look clean. More inclined to spend £10 in the car wash getting a manual clean than DIY. I probably will get one of these treatments, pure guard, supaguard, diamond brite etc and see how it goes. If it doesnt work, I'd go back to claim against the guarantee, if that doesnt work, i eat humble pie and just like i'll go to the gym 3 x a week, i'll embrace civic car cleaning with the same degree of dedication. I'm just looking for the best of the possible treatments or an opinion on whats the least worst case one. If anyone has any feedback to share, please share it! Thanks Bill |

But spending £200-300 on a treatment only to shrug your shoulder and then resort to DIY cleaning makes no sense, when the results don't equal what you believed you would be getting.
Honestly, save the money, and wash/dry/quick detail it weekly (1.5 hours work tops) and wax/seal it fortnightly/monthly - another hour's work. The most intensive bit will be the initial clean/clay/wax or seal, especially if you clean the interior and wax/seal the wheels and tire dress. Once you've done the hardest part, the weekly/fortnightly/monthly routine will be a breeze, and once you get into it, it'll become something you want to do as relaxation. Of course, it doesn't get you off doing the dishes or the papering/painting - but that's another kind of detailing altogether, for another thread some other time! |

you may as well wait until halfords do a 3 for 2 offer then go in and buy every thing you need, and it will come no where near £150, and you get to keep the nice micro fibre cloths you will use, what does the dealer use?

I can only back up what others have said and tell you to steer clear of these products.
They are promoted by dealers because they are on a wedge of commission. eBay are selling the very same for less than £15 !! Try this site instead and stop thinking that these coatings will mean youll have to wash your car less often. www.polishedbliss.com |

What you will need to do, is get your fingers wrapped in clingfilm, then run over the bodywork.
Any snags and lumps you feel are contamination - and a clay bar will likely be the only option for removal. First wash should be with a good degreasant shampoo, such as a cheap washing up liquid - lemon or orange. Make sure to really rinse the car thoroughly after this, then clay it, if it needs it after the test above. Wash with a good car shampoo, then dry with a good large microfibre towel. Apply your wax/sealant product, and buff to a gleaming shine. As I've been impressed by the Bilt Hamber stuff recently, I'd advocate their wash and clay. The balm I've yet to use, but I'm convinced it's potentially THE best protection your car will have, reapplied at least once every 14-28 days. With respect to robbo, and the many other detailers out there, I don't subscribe to the belief that the highly regarded and much hyped/talked about waxes/sealants last anywhere near the timeframes often quoted - hence why I'll always advocate a 2 week reapplication period. Towel wise, you could opt for Aquatouch from The Polishing Company or Chemical Guys' big yellow one. Sheepskin mitt - picked up a nice square one (as opposed to the rounded with thumb type) from Raceglaze - is a must have, and a chenile microfibre mitt (looks like green worms) for the wheels. Auto Balm provides you with the applicator and material to buff with, although a good microfibre cloth such as the DF ones from The Polishing Company would be a better option. There's some pics in the claying thread I done not that long ago.
I need a severe deswirling before using the Auto Balm, so it shines fine once washed and dried, but the weather and road spray, etc soon puts pay to that. More will be forthcoming soon. |
