Glasses and Trim

Afternoon everyone

When I was drying my car after cleaning, I spotted some marks I cannot get off with a regular cheap glass cleaner (eg Turtle Wax, etc.). I think this may be due to a mitt which had wax in it, which I used to shampoo the car. Well, you can't blame a noob!

Also, I don't like how the trim looks after getting wet in the train. You can see the where the trail of dripping water and dirt after getting wet.

Anyone knows how I can remedy these?

Thanks in advance to all your inputs.

Glass - use a glass polish such as AG, that should get rid of the marks on the glass. You could then wipe down with some IPA & seal the glass with Gtechniq G% water repellant.

Trim - give it a good wash, use a de-greaser & IPA wipedown - then protect it with a trim protectant. AG do a bumper/trim protectant which can be picked up in Halfords. There are quite a few on the market.

Thanks for the responses guys

Stuart - I have seen your pictures in another thread and I must say it looks really good. Do you know if Plasticare is available anywhere else, or are there alternatives? I am staying out of ebay after someone I know became a victim of fraud!

Also, what prep did you do before putting in Plasticare? Also, can we wax in after drying?

Shaun - Thanks mate. What do you mean by IPA? As I said, I'm a noob on this thing. What can you use as a degreaser? i thnk I've read somewhere that any all purpose cleaner (APC) would do.

As far as I know plasticare is only available from eBay.

Apart from making sure all dirt and grease are cleaned off and masking the trims up its just a matter of putting it on, I used a brush. After you've given it a day to dry just use some black to black or equivalent, does look ok without but it just deepens it a little.

Cheers lads

What do you use as a degreaser? Is a regular shampoo enough to degrease?

Thanks Stuart.

I guess the IPA counts as white spirit. Any alternatives to these?

IPA is alcohol and will degrease and evaporate..
White spirit will leave a residue behind
You need totally clean glass/paint.

I was thinking of using left-over vodka, but then I realised it's a more expensive option. I'm obviously naive about these chemical stuff.

Where can I buy the Gtechniq Glass Sealant? Also any alternatives to this?

Another question, would you guys advise taping up the edges before applying plasticare? Are there any special tape I should purchase?

As always, many thanks for your advice.

Loads of alternatives, only tried Gtechniq G5 (previously G3), i'm very pleased with the results.

I'm a bit wary of buying that GTechniq product since it says it needs professional application. Hmmm...

G5 does not. Wash windscreen, dry it, use a glass polish (Autoglym). Wipe polish off. IPA wipe to get the glass squeaky clean. Apply G5 in tight circular motions. Then buff off, really easy.

Left over Vodka?

Olie, if you have any left over Vodka you just send it to me!!!!

I like lighter fuel, (as a degreaser, not for drinking ) as it's pretty pure and evaporates leaving no trace.

The one for Zippo petrol lighters, not the gas one.

I have bought a couple of pots from those guys and not had any issues. Its good stuff, give it a couple of coats and then use a normal trim revive/sealant and it looks brillient. I have used Gtechniq T1 on mine.
