Talking Swissvax BOS -v- Scholl Vintage

Well as you probably know I bought a used pot of BOS & borrowed a sample of Scholl Vintage (thanks Russ "reflectology")

I have decided that a full sized pot of one of these waxes will be my xmas treat, but which one ?

BOS retails at £195 & the Vintage at £113, even with discounts available there is quite a difference in price between the 2.

So I have decided to do a 50/50 on my bonnet. The bonnet was prepped by removing all previous products by using Autobrite "Wax Off" & a wash with some APC. It was then washed with shampoo, dried & then polished with the DA using Scholl S40. Then a wipe down with IPA at 1:7.

Obligatory blue tape to divide the bonnet, nice & shiny as you can see

BOS applied to the left & Vintage to the right. Both waxes win the smell test & both go on as easy as the other. Waxes were left to sit for 10 mins before buffing off. New applicators & new cloths were used so as to not cross contaminate.

Waxes Curing.

BOS was so easy to buff off, in fact I reckon if it was windy it would do it all by itself. Vintage was not quite as easy, but by no means was it difficult.

I will apply a 2nd layer in 24 hours & a 3rd layer 24 hours after that. Initially I could not see any difference in looks. But after walking around & looking again & again I prefer the BOS, but only just.

I will update after the 2nd & 3rd layers.

To authenticate the results Shaun, I would only add ONE more coat as the BOS is likely to benefit less from layering...due to its alleged superior blend

Whilst its clear that both are superb, do they honestly yield results which are so much better than say Gtechniq carnauba at £20 a bottle? Just not sure it's worth the outlay but I'm happy to be proven wrong

That's an all new debate & an opinion I had before using a boutique wax (Migliore Competizione). All I can say is I won't be putting any more "cheap" waxes on my car from now on. The looks & warmth you get from high end waxes is much more pleasing to me.

Bentley maybe but on a Civic, not so sure a £195 pot of wax suits a run of the mill car with standard paint, surely this sort of wax is for top end paint jobs.

£20 max for me when it comes to wax that's all that is needed IMO.

Overkill

Not at all there is things like Swissvax crystal rock for that and others ranging from £700 upto £40,000 (yes £40,000)

It adds a nice wet look showroom finish and the finish will be glossier than cheaper brands.

Disagree with that maca, I'm sure owners of high end cars use cheap waxes to as they probably don't know differences between budget and boutique. It's all about choice and what you thinks work and looks good for you and your car. Shaun has tried budget waxes and moved up a level as have others, and he certainly believes there is a massive difference in the looks and finish. I'm on the fence really as I'm yet to try boutique waxes but at the mo I'm a sealant guy anyway

Suppose it's difficult to tell in pictures, really need to see it in the flesh to see what the extra outlay is for,it does look really good but in the pics it's hard to see the difference between that and the cheaper waxes

How about a beading pic to compare the protection between the two?
