Well the CAI is fitted and sounding great. It's a little groggy now on rapid throttle changes but I suspect with a bit more driving round the ECU will improve a bit. Need to get it to TDI for mapping now, really.

It's not the quickest of installs, especially in the dark using a torch

Two things that need to be said (I'm gonna call CPL about these, too) are 1/ the bracket needed some slight tweaking to get it to the mounting point, and 2/ where the breathers are braised on there was a couple of metal flakes on the inside of the tube that I had to remove as it looked like they might come off and get sucked in to the engine. The HKS RSK had the same bits of metal that needed cleaning out so this isn't just a CPL thing. Just be aware before installing.

Hiya Mate

Is it quiet easy to install and do you have to remove bumper? Also, has the groggy'ness ceased yet as thinking about getting one myself, but am still on the fence lol.

Cheers

I'm running a FlashPro now so yes, long gone Seems to effect some cars and not others, also I have a misreading ARF sensor which CPL corrected for in the remap. Goes like stink now and sounds awesome. Like the HKS but not coming from inside the dash (don't know if you've heard one but the RSK is bloody loud inside the car).

As for fitting. It's case of relocating the battery (easy), lengthening and rerouting a wire (needs soldering), Rerouting a minor coolant hose, NS arch cover off and lining out, loosen bumper and move out about 2" forward to get to remove the stock resonator bolts, remove ducting, fit CPL intake tube, fit K&N, fit supplied breather hoses, reassemble. Job done!

Bumper doesn't need to come off.

Put it this way: if I can install it, anyone can.

Is there bhp & torque differences between cpl cai vs factory cai with performance panel filter? (both tuned)

Probably very little. Though I bet as mods continue the CPL CAI is less likely to become a restriction.

Hi all,

I has just had my FN2R in to Jtune for their CAI intake install (very similar setup to CPL CAI) and Hondata reflash tune. Totally different car now! The car in stock form would demand a heavy right foot and snappy gear changes to keep the power and revs up... after tune and CAI it now requires quite a different driving style, as it seems to have much improved pick up and pull without needing to mash the accelerator. Intake sound is immense, especially if you do decide to mash the accelerator! Intake noise does actually quieten and smooth out when driving and shifting above 6000rpm. The throttle response of the stock setup seems a joke in comparison.

Cheers,
Bryan

Nice one Brian. I think the CAI sounds best just after the low Vtec point.. about 4200rpm... sounds raw and throaty

Out of interest; did you end up with a MAP or a MAF tune?

I believe it is a maf tune. Custom tuned on dyno after install of CAI. Piping of CAI still has MAF sensor in place. The intake sound is nice with a more gentle right foot, heavy right foot sounds like a large horny bull is about to leap out of the bonnet. Will be asking the guys about this next week to see if the tune needs tweaking or whether this is just the typical response with rapid open throttle with CAI.

The MAF sensor has to be left in place as it also houses the AIT sensor, but with a MAP tuned the MAF sensor is ignored.

Who ever said it a dig job was a proper joker as it just isn't.

It killed my car, it felt as flat as a pancake. My car was running a toda and a CPL manifold.

Took it to TDI the very same day as it was THAT bad !

OMG - it woke up big time - the sound- the performance.

It's not the prettiest thing, but it's in expensive and works on a maped car

Correct me if I'm wrong.

You run the group n map. You fitted a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold which is a decat... and your surprised you needed a custom remap?

Do you have any idea how much the engines VE changes when you go from the stock manifold to a 4-2-1 decat? A lot. But yeah it's solely the CPL CAI's fault ... Not.

I fitted mine with no issues, as has many others.

You purchased a second hand one which you said in another thread didn't come with instructions.

It's easy with instructions.

i never said it was cpl fault

i had a copy of the instructions from cpl

i also said how good the product was when maped.

gave an honest report of my experience

Ah ok, your post is poorly worded then as it came across like you was solely blaming the CPL CAI.

i was blaming the cpl intake, because that is what it did to my car with the mods i was running. it destroyed them UNTILL it was mapped. Once mapped it performs extreamy well, wouldnt have anything else.

That's funny because I drove home on stock map with a newly installed CPL CAI and a race header and it drove alright.

Actually I was also on group N.
