Extra Door Lock/unlock button centre console

Hi all.

I wish to install an extra Door Lock/Unlock button in the centre console. This is so that my passenger can operate the locks when I leave them behind in the car.

Had this on my old Honda But that had a clifford alarm so it was easy to get to the wires required.

Anyone done this on the new civic?

If so was it difficult? & where are the wires located?

Any help appreciated.

Is it too far for your passenger to reach over and lock the doors from the drivers door switch. My wife does it and seems to manage ok.

Yes it is, I just thought it might save you a bit of work.

It's a shame the passenger side one won't lock the doors.

If you don't have inside alarm sensors simply leave them the keys, then they can lock the doors with the remote

Why would the new civics not have internal alarms sensors? I thought that this was the basis of the alarm systems provided by Honda? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Perhaps in the UK, in Germany it remains optional AFAIK

In Sweden it is not even an option.

The FN2 Type R has inside sensors. I locked myself in the back of my car the other day and God does that alarm make a noise or what. Not ideal to lock the car with the remote whilst others are inside. I don't know if you can disable the sensors for inside while there are people in it. I know it something my Dad does in the BM's when he has left the dog in the car

I thought there was a way of locking the car whilst turning off the inside sensors so you can leave a dog etc in there?

There is, you open drivers door and whilst you press the external handle (keeping it pressed) you then flick the internal door lock to locked. Still keeping the handle pressed you close the door, then release.
The alarm arms as usual but deativates the internal sensors.!

its workable, & as I started this thread, this is what I have been doing to leave the mrs in the car. BUT, its a bit annoying when its p1ssing down with rain or im parked on a busy road.

It is a pain and you've only just made me realise that I used to leave folk in my car and they would lock themselves in by using the button in the center consol. Sounds like it could be a tricky job trying to get a button that works in he center of the car.

Maybe ask someone like Holdcroft if they think that what your wanting to do would work. They should know

I personally dont think its too difficult, I was just hoping somebody has already done it, so i dont have to go through looking at where all the wiring is.
I had a Honda CRX Del sol before and fitted the exact switch, its very simple if the wires are easy to get to.
Getting Honda dealer to do it just means lots of ££££. when u do it yourself it'll cost u the switch & the price of wires, connectors, a little solder & insualtion tape.

Can't they just flick the lock on the passenger door, or does that not activate the central locking? Only the passenger door?

Dunno about the UK but here in Ireland all the non-ES/EX Civics seem to lack the interior alarm sensors.

It doesnt make sense? if Honda have not fitted internal sensors to the alarm systems, what are they using for detection? I know that some alarms use microwave technology(lsuch as clifford alarms) but it is not mentioned anywhere by honda?
IMHO if there are no internal sensors, then if a window is broken the alarm will not go off? or if someone was trying to crow bar the door open, it would not go off until the door was actually broken open?
Thoughts anyone?

This is exactly correct.

However, some cars, on some markets do have internal sensors. The UK EX cars for example.

Well, they use nothing for detection inside the car, alarm goes off if somebody tries to break a lock or to force the ignition - but not if a window is smash. Honestly, the sensors don't make a lot of sense either any more, the thieves don't care for the alarm, they know that they can get away because the police prefer to catch you or me on a speed camera instead of chasing criminals (that can be dangerous you know)
