I have done it myself a few times, it really works and is a good laugh watching all the strange looks in the Tesco car park.
I always wondered why fob for my old MG ZR worked better when I held it against my chin!

I thought I was just imagining it! :P

I havent tried the head solution but i dont think it will work, i think it has something to do within the car itself.
Have you tried holding the car against your head?

Failed Remote

Just a point guys 'n galls re the reomte batteries (although I wouldn't expect them to have failed yet) the light on the remote requires only milli-volts to operate brightly but there may no be enough voltage to operate the remote sufficiently.

You will usually find this together with the remote only working when very near or at the car.

Listen to this one guys...My civic is only 2 weeks old, I take it to a spot in the morning every day, park and then take public transport to go to work. Today when i came back in the evening, it wouldnt unlock with the remote no matter what i tried. Having already read this thread a week ago, i tried the key, the door opens ofcourse but other than that, everything is DEAD! no lights, put the key in ignition in all positions, start button nothing works. Tried every single combination of locking/unlocking with key in ignition or in door lock, manual locking from inside...NOTHING!

I am extremely disappointed, and cant figure it out. Tomorrow Ill call the dealer, definately it will be fixed but its a bit worrying that you'd have this problem in a brand new car - makes u wonder what adventures the future may hold! The only excuse i can find is the batt, but how can that happen in only 2 weeks time, having done 250km (not much, but not little either)???

If anyone can assist i'd be grateful!

According to my Manual, No.

I've had the same problem in the beginning ,the only thing i see was a green key on the display ,they reprogrammed the key and the problem was gone .

Now for the unlockingproblem ,since i started this thread it didn't happen any more ,the only thing i've changed is that we only use 1 key the other one stays at home ,before my wife uses her key and i use mine but now she uses her own (bought a second car ).

Christophe,

With regards to your car suddenly dying on you, my wife had a similar thing with her new Auris.
Only a week old, it just wouldn't start one morning and there seemed to be similarly dead. She called out the home assistance and after some searching they found that it was a loose earth cable.
Cars have their batteries disconnected during delivery and its up to the dealers to ensure these leads are connected properly.

Tested: Although the manual states otherwise, the key DOES disable the alarm/immobiliser in my car...

Good

On the IS200, if you unlocked the car with the key then the alarm belted out for 30 secs, then started again if you failed to use the fob button.

There was a routine you had to perform to stop the alarm. Something like, turn on ignition and press a combination of buttons within 10 secs.

With my Land Rover you have to put the key in the door and then make a series of clockwise/counter-clockwise turns like a bloody safe tumbler....

The alarm needs three minutes to activate AFTER you have remote locked it. During this 3 minute period the alarm will not go off if you unlock with the key. After 3 minutes the alarm will go off if you insert key and turn anti-clockwise. The door does not have to be opened. The only way to stop the alarm (other than pressing the remote button) is to put the key in the ignition. The alarm then stops after 10 seconds.

So if you want to nick a Civic, wait til the driver locks the car and walks away... You then have 3 minutes with no alarm/immobiliser....

Not clever...

Of course the other interesting question is how many Civics have soundless alarms? It could be a considerable number as until you test it you will not know. Meanwhile your insurance could be invalidated if it is stolen.

Mine is booked in for two days at the end of the month to find out why the alarm does not sound. Because so few owners check their alarms Honda may have built dozens of Civics with soundless alarms.

Civic owners - have you checked your alarm? It is not something done as part of the pre-delivery checks.
