Rear parking sensor speaker location
We got our '06 1.8 EX I-SHIFT at the weekend and are (generally) very happy with it. The amount of electronics is a confirmed gadget-heads dream!!!
However, to temper the joy we have also started the faults list that need remedying ASAP But anyway, to the title of the thread. It also has the parking sensors fitted (genuine Honda ones by the looks) but the sounder (speaker whatever) looks to be fited in in a very odd place. Its by the off side C pilar, where the seat belt mount is and is in the cabin (rather than in the boot or somewhere unobtrusive), right by the passengers ear. I found this out to my cost when I sat in the back on Sunday and nearly had a heart attack when the wife put the car in reverse and it scream in my ear Cheers M |

Just checked my sensor by starting the car, putting in reverse, and then walking around the back - probably not the safest idea.
My sensor is immediately next to the light in the boot - drivers side. It was a dealer fit - December 2007. Hope this helps |

Excellent Clive, thank you for the quick responce! I rather thought it should be in the boot somewhere. I'm wondering of this was dealer fitted and the customer was hard of hearing and asked for it to be there (Ok, ok, so I'm always looking on the bright side of life, I prefer that thought to it being installed by an incompetent fitter!!!!)

PS, can others give me and idea of location as well. I'm tryiing to get a consensus of opinion so that I have something to back up my comments when I go back to the dealer (I have a feeling I wont be too popular with them as I can now add v poor radio reception to the growing list of faults, just been reported in dispatches by the better half on her drive into work this morning. It couldn't hold on to Radio 2 on the M42. Then again, maybe the radio was making a comment about my musical tastes...)

slightly off topic, but as you mentioned it in the original post...
what happens on the dash temp display if the passenger uses the temp up/down switch on the passenger door? The temp display on that side should go up/down, and the dual light should come on. If you then press the dual button, both sides should revert to the driver's side temp and the light should go out. Though to be fair, the light should come on when you press it, so it does sound like an issue |

If we use the passenger side door controller, the passenger side temp indicator on the display changes for an infinitesimally small amount of time, then reverts back to the same as the drivers

I think that the switch behind the dual button has stuck
should hopefully be a pretty easy dlr fix if that is the case might even be worth connecting up the tyre pump from the boot, and blowing air around the button area incase its something as simple as a bit of leaf or gunk stuck behind it wouldn't try anything more complex than that though - if it doesn't fix it, leave it to the dlr - think you probably need to take the dash apart to get at the switch, and whilst it's not a HUGE job to do that... |

My RPS beeper is fitted in the boot just forward of the light, which seems to be the usual place; Dealer fitted in July 07. For what it's worth, it did fail after about 3 weeks.

Up until very recently, rear parking sensors were all dealer fit - I think that the EX models now have them as factory fit (could be wrong there).
so it could well be luck of the draw as to where the installer found easiest to put the speaker I do recall a couple of threads where people were saying the beeper was too quiet... |

My Honda franchised dealer fitted non-Honda sensors (obviously on to a little earner) and the beeper is somewhere behind the dash.
It is obviously one that should be in the boot as it's more akin to a smoke alarm. When I find the little b***er I will put some tape over it to quieten it down a bit. |

Thanks for all the help, looks like I could ask them to relocate it (if possible without causing to much damage to the interior) but not really complain as such. Gald I found this out before going in
Plan B, buy new pair of black socks to put over speaker to muffle it (and there was me complaining about Heath Robinson looks.....) |

Sorry you have problems with your car, it was a gamble buying an 06 model as you have now found, my guess is the previous owner sold it on because of these problems and now you are left to try an get them sorted.

yeah we kind of knew the risks and to be honest, none of the problems are show stoppers. It still starts (well thats just hexed the battery issue!!!) stops and goes well, so its just irritating rather than anything else and my wife loves it. Avonvale Honda (Stratford) have been v good to us in the past, so I have no reason to believe they wont be again and with only 6k on the clock in two years (only 800 miles since last August, its bearly run in) and (nearly) all the toys, it was a bit of a bargain.
If I dont get all the issues fixed though, my feelings may change.... |

Irritating after a few days may grow into anger after a few weeks and some of your problems like the radio are issues that may not be fixed unfortunately but having a good dealership is a good start. A lot of people complained on this forum that the parking sensors are too quiet and I didnt think they were a problem but I had sensors on both my civics and both were fitted in the boot, since I have changed my car for a Focus the parking sensor is where you say yours is and I have realised that it is much better as I no longer have to turn the radio down to hear them properly. |
