It's a good idea -- I prefer the air vent one myself. I have one of these type spare somewhere unused, so PM me if youre after one..

Just straight Velcro with double sided attached could be fitted at a less 'prone to be knocked off' place.

W.H. Smiths do that sort of thing.

It's surprising how much 'out of the way' these clips are.

I usually have the phone on the lower one and it has never been knocked by a passenger.

The Velcro I have used is the heavy duty stuff that comes on a roll from B&Q. It's the perfect width.

I have the Brodit mount which fits just to the left of the gearstick (first pic) it looks like it would get in the way, but with a tomtom go520 mounted on it it's fine. No one has hit it with legs or anything and its away from your hand when changing gear. I had a Brodit mount in my last car and will have another in my next one. A big
