Question Reverse Parking Sensors for £50 ?

This number plate mouted sensor looks like a good idea. Has anyone else tried something like this ?

Meta SR2 Targa Parking Sensor System from Halfords Was £99.99 Save £50.00 Price £49.99 1/2 Price!#

Description
  • Registration plate mounting system - this provides one sensor either side of the registration plate once fitted
  • Parking sensor only operates when in reverse
  • Distance between you and the obstacle is always monitored both when the vehicle is moving and stationary
  • Intermittant audible signals begin when the obstruction is within the sensor detecting range - the buzzer is located discretely in the interior of your car
  • An unbroken signal warns of a minimum distance allowing the vehicle to be stopped in safety
  • Easy DIY fit, simply wire into your reversing light. Full fitting instructions included. Suitable for virtually all vehicles.
  • The SR2 Targa reversing aid is cleverly designed to mount behind the rear vehicle number plate, allowing an extremely neat, unobtrusive fit - minimal drilling may be required. PARKING SENSOR,PARKING SENSER, SENSORS, SENSER, PARKING,MATA SR2 TARGA SYSTEM,

I have one of those in the garage, bought for my Passat but never fitted. I did offer it up to the Civic just after I got it but it looked as if the angle of the plate was too far off vertical. May have to have another look.

I was thinking of one of those.
I emailed them about the ideal height as the Civic number plate is quite high, but they never got back to me.
Cyclon: can the sensor be positioned/rotated to point downwards?

Cheers,

Terry

I tried something similar with the Costco 'back up' camera for a similar price. All working fine now but I did mount the camera on the inside of the lower portion of the back window. The definition of 'Easy DIY fit' is a little loose. It does depend whether or not you have the confidence to drill through from the numberplate area to the inside of the lights cluster which you can easily access by removing the blanking plate on the inside of the tailgate. You'll need to do this to run the power wire to the reversing light. I found it very difficult to find a convenient place to drill through although I am sure many others, and I know Sandozer is one, have managed to do this with their superior knowledge and confidence. Take a look at where you would drill through before you buy because I do not think that the 'inside the car' workaround would be appropriate for the sensors.

I've fitted these style before and to be honest, they are rubbish. They dont pick up the corners of the car such as 'normal' four sensor kits but what do you expect for £50???

They are what they are, a cheap answer to a problem.
