Jailbreaking is great. I use mine as an ebook reader on the train to and from work as well...

The phone wouldn't be half as good as it is if it wasn't Jailbroken....

...plus, I wouldn't be able to use it in AUS at all...

3G iPhone next week are you guys going to take the plunge?

I'm thinking about it but it'll mean running it alongside my existing contract with T-Mobile unless they see sense and sell a sim-free model

Rumours are that they have sorted the battery problem but then again you'll be able to switch the 3G off.

But then again my K850i battery doesn't last more than 2 days with heavy use and thats using HSDPA

We'll wait and see what his Steveness says at the WWDC keynote next monday

I'm happy with what I've got at the moment.

For me it will all depend on what features we miss out of when they do the next firmware upgrade.

If they start giving cool stuff to the 3G model and not the 1st Gen then I'll probably get the 3G.

There are a few things I'm waiting to see if the next Firmware has:

...things like full Exchange support - rumoured to be part of the new model but also rumoured to be part of the v2 firmware for the current model.

Did anyone watch the Apple video presentation Steve Jobs gave at the san Francisco show it’s an hour long and goes through all the changes, I feel a bit disappointed with the 3G iPhone as there has not been much hardware improvements mainly software which can be updated on the current iPhone.

I think they have aimed the new iPhone at the corporate market not just the everyday user who would like a video camera maybe a flash for the camera, standard mms capabilities without using swirly mms, being able to Bluetooth stuff between phones like music videos pictures, being able to delete individual messages forward them save messages create folders etc they could do so much more as most of the stuff is just software, but those will be for the next next iPhone.

Saying all that I probably will get the new iPhone and don’t think I could go back to using a normal phone as they are so much more sophisticated in another way even though they do lack some basic features. When I’m using someone else’s normal phone with a normal keypad I often find myself pressing the screen forgetting it has buttons!!!

I think I'm going to give it a miss, I currently have the 16gb iPhone and I'm more than happy with it.

Once I have updated my iPhone software to 2.0 the only difference between mine and the 2nd generation model will be 3g and GPS (oh and a cheap white plastic back - not the solid metal one I have now ). Not bothered about the lack of 3g on my phone as there are plenty of wifi spots around (as well as at home and at work) and i mostly use websites that have been designed for iphone use so load quicker than more detailed html sites. As for GPS, I find my Honda satnav ticks that box

I'm going to wait until the 3rd incarnation of the iPhone, hopefully it will come with a better camera and more memory than I currently have, then i'll consider upgrading seriously.

Having said that if you currently have the 8gb iPhone, then upgrading to the 16gb 3g iPhone looks like a good proposition at £159

What are the upgrade options if you have the 16gb iphone currently?

If I stay on my £35 a month tariff, I can get the 16gb one for £159 but would have to start another 18 month contract

If you want the 3G 8Gb £99.00 or 16Gb for £159 as an upgrade from what you currently have but depends on what tariff you are currently on as £45 PM month and above can get the 8Gb as a free upgrade Existing iPhone Customers - iPhone - O2

Its looking like its 159 even to new customers. I thought there would have been some sort of loyalty thing where existing iphone customers got it for cheaper!

The only benefit they offer is that they allow you to end your current contract early without financial penalties in order to start the new one

The lack of loyalty discount is also one of the reasons why I am giving it a miss this time round

That's what I did when I upgraded from the 8gb to the 16gb, but to be honest I really don't like the white plastic back on the new phone, looks cheap and nasty

They also do it with the black plastic which dosnt look as bad as the white but i still prefer the metal casing on the current iPhone, as for loyalty o2 has none for their existing customers there only looking to sucker in new customers. Saying that i just finished a contract and have gone down the route of the o2 simplicity which is a not bad deal 600mins 1000texts and a free unlimited web bolt on £25, comes with a 1 month contract.

Unfortunately only the 8gb has the black plastic backing, the 16gb is white only - I suppose thats so the posers can show who's got the biggest hard drive

Umm... I watched the whole keynote and have been reading everything posted on sites like ENGADGET and GIZMODO and TUAW and it would appear, from everything I have seen and read that the 16GB comes in BOTH BLACK AND WHITE.

This would also be inkeeping with apple's other products: the Nano only comes in Silver in the 4GB but it comes in Silver and half a dozen others colours in the 8GB.

The MackBook comes in WHITE for the base model and BLACK OR WHITE for the more powerful version.

And the there's this from the Apple website:
